Hi everyone, I am a provisional Psychologist from Melbourne Australia and am conducting a Masters thesis exploring the relationship between social anxiety and perfectionism. This may help us to gain more understanding into the treatment for social anxiety. I am looking for people 18+ who feel anxious in social situations to help me with my... by socialanx_per

Can anyone help me how to read my serotonin level? As I suspect my SA is to a great extent hereditary, I got myself a blood test for serotonin level. The resuslt was: 124 ug/l (max. being 292) I asked many doctors whether is it too low, and none of them could help. They all said they can only tell me if my serotonin level was too high. by Jaspion

I just started CBT treatment as I told my therapist to take the mere idea of meds and piss off so we decided to settle for CBT. I just went to a support group and met people with SA, depression, BP, etc. Next thing I know they start bashing the fact I refuse meds and say they are the best thing out there.. I told them if it works for you then... by Honda

Not sure if it's the right section so, uh, please correct me, if I did post it where it does not belong. So, anyways, today I found out some helpful videos about coping with anxiety, shyness and general life. It's awesome! And really helpful. Hello, I am new to this site. Have had severe SP/SA for 12 years. 30 year old male. Tried every SSRI, benzo, SNRI, tri-cyclic, maoi, the list goes on you name it i tried it. No real success except Nardil seemed to work decently but the dietary restrictions made me pretty paranoid and the sexual dysfunction was ridiculous. My question: has... by norse

So I am diagnosed with social anxiety but I don't see a therapist anymore (just a psychiatrist who throws prescriptions at my problems). Now I kept getting this whole "Dude, your self-esteem is really low". But my friend, however, he has very high self-esteem and he has many physcial attributes that would make you think otherwise. He has this... by tito_ramos

Okay, so I guess I should start of by saying that I have SA and depression (and probably OCD) that have all gotten a lot worse within the past two weeks (with the start of college). During this time, I've started to change how often and how much I eat, depending on how depressed I feel, and whether or not I want to treat my body well. For example,... by Courtney27S

Social anxiety has plagued me all my life. I had few friends in school, I never raised my hand in class, and I rarely attended social functions outside of school. I was really smart, though. I went to college, and suffered from depression as a result of not having the courage to even say so much as hello to a girl I became increasingly obsessed... by zashiki-warashi

I have a worked with a woman for 7 years, and clearly her life is negatively effected by her phobia of social settings. She has confided in me that she has lost friends and alienated family members by turning down every invitation that comes her way. This also effects her profesionally.. As the BIG boss has commented several time to... by cadiza

For those of you that have talked to a Theripist, how did you get the courage to seek out help? I feel I should talk to somebody about my anxiety, but my anxiety level, when thinking about the idea of finding a theripist, goes to the moon How did you do it? by \(_o)/

Western medicine is highly overrated. Big pharmaceutical companies push doctors to prescribe medications that may not be the best for the patient. Also, there is a general stigma in North America, in regards to any type of mental illness. Has anyone tried spiritual healing, Eastern medicine, or even Native healers. Very wise people who,... by kyle

More often than not, people who seek help find their malady is "treatment resistant." I've had bad luck with meds for about 35 years now. Things are either too expensive, a hoax, or they treat you like a criminal. I was just wondering if anyone has any hopeful experiences or suggestions? by neardeath

Yes that's what I'm asking, and before you ask "wtf are you doing?" Well, it was my therapist the one who told me to do it. You'll see, to keep it short, since I'm 6 I've had a pathological fear to express interest in women. It didn't bothered me until I was 16, and it got so frustrating over the years that I finally overcame the fear of my... by Arthur_Dent

Hi everybody My first post here but I've read a lot here already. It's getting too late for me to avoid avoidant personality disorder :) and SA but as a first step I'm going out and getting home a dog. I've been suggested that I keep a pet to overcome depression and all that, so that's what I'm gonna finally do. So which breed of dog do I... by hopelives

I'm considering starting therapy, and I'm finding that a lot of therapists are really not very familiar with treating social anxiety. It's really not a very well understood disorder. I did find a center nearby that lists social anxiety as one of their specialties and offers group therapy as a more "affordable option." My insurance refuses to cover... by Miss Magnolia :)

Hi. Just wanted to share my very brief experience of cognitive behavioural therapy. I tried it for four sessions on the NHS, but found it wasn't for me. I was referred there by my GP, having experienced depression, anxiety, social phobia and other issues for many years as a result of post-sympathectomy side-effects (the sympathectomies were for... by JR25
