Social anxiety and Xyrem (GHB)

Hello,

I am new to this site. Have had severe SP/SA for 12 years. 30 year old male. Tried every SSRI, benzo, SNRI, tri-cyclic, maoi, the list goes on you name it i tried it. No real success except Nardil seemed to work decently but the dietary restrictions made me pretty paranoid and the sexual dysfunction was ridiculous. My question: has anyone tried Xyrem for social anxiety. This is GHB. I'm aware of the social status regarding this med. Not looking to stir up a lot of controversy, but to find feedback. Looking for people who have used it medically supervised not kitchen chemists. Happy to be hear and thanks in advance.

Outstanding. Precisely the kind of reply that helps no one. This med was never offered to me, but it holds promise. It's been used extensively in parts of Europe with success...no date rape stigma attached there and limited problems with it's use.

Those side effects you listed are limited to oh I'd say 90% of any psychotropic medicine...not GHB.

If you have no use or experience with it don't speak on it. I'm not talking about recreational use here, but in a controlled medical setting prescribed by a professional. Has there been a surge of narcoleptics and date-rapes since this became a legitimate RX? Where was the controversy when you could by this in GNC over the counter?

Again, if anyone has any insight/experience good, bad, or ugly please share it (not more media sensationalism or scare tactic rhetoric).

Thanks.

Adverse effects from Xyrem in clinical trials included: headache, nausea, dizziness, nasopharyngitis, somnolence, vomiting, urinary incontinence, confusion, dyspnea, hypoesthesia, paresthesia, tremor, vertigo, and blurred vision. Out of the 717 patients and 182 healthy volunteers who took part in the trials (899 total), two of them died from drug overdoses, although only one of these involved GHB.[5]

.
Sounds safer than Zoloft. Ever see the side effect profile for tha drug?

Hi there just wanted to make a comment. you mentioned GHB, I think I have tried something very similar to that.

I remember a few years ago, health supplement stores were selling something called RemedyGH, it was a clear liquid. Tasted like stale water really. This is when it was legal to carry it in stores.

I was told it was to aid in sleep and also promotes muscle, well being, kinda like the magic HGH. Nutritional aid.

I purchased a bottle. I took 1 times above the dosage. The feeling I had was that I felt extremely confident, had much motivation, was very focused in my conversation, and spoke intelligently about subjects. All I know is I felt different, like I was a new person. I think Remedy GH was a precursor or catalyst of producing hgh, dopamine in the body. Lasted about 3 hours.

Now thinking back, I feel if I would of taken the same effective dose for many weeks like prescription drugs for example, this would of probably been the most effective thing I have ever came across.

This stuff was eventually banned because of abuse and recreational use. I believe know it this was a form of GHB Gamma-Hydroxybutyric Acid.

Anyway just wanted to give my comment. I suffer from SAD pretty bad and it seemed to get worse as I got older. Most likely my brain produces less of the chemical I need as I get older unfortunately. So if people out there tell you its all in your head or you need tony robins in your life etc you can tell them to screw off. I truly believe people that suffer from SA is a physical chemical balance impairment.

I have many times told myself that a certain situation is going to be ok or what is there to worry about, I met these people before etc... But then Bam it hits you like a freight train and your totally getting all the SA symptoms out of no where and your thinking to yourself.. why is this happening?

I have tried everything too, all the ssri, snri, beta blockers, all the stuff your doctor wants you to try first, even though going to a different doctor they are so quick to prescribe the same damn thing because they are not specialists in this disorder. They just do what the commercial tells them to do and get a kickback for prescribing the new drug on the market that is less effective then what worked many years ago called Nardil.

Sorry if I sounded a little angry, didnt mean to, just been through alot lol.

So to end my long post. I have been taking klonopin 4mg a day which helps alot but not quite enough. I am trying the 6mg Emsam patch tommorow, if it fails my doctor says we will go with Nardil.

Thanks for listening

Thanks Mandalay! All I wanted to hear was some first hand experience. This thing needs to be studied more because it is PRO-SOCIAL...not an anesthetic for your mind. I'm on Wellbutrin XL and 4mg Klonopin and feel about as sharp as a marble. :) I've had SA/SP for 12 years, and like you have been on ever friggen med out there...all the SSRI's, SNRI's, tri-cyclics, benzos (all of them), Nardil (good but totally killed my sexual performance - big time), Parnate (same as above but not as good), Emsam, Remeron, damnit everything!!! I'm 30 now. That's 12 years of my life where I have not enjoyed life save for brief moments that I can't even reflect back on too often because my memory is jacked!!

Bottom line - this stuff could help people. I am NOT talking about getting it illicitly or throw underground channels. It needs to be studied and clinical trials need to be underway. This damn compound is non-toxic, and probably safe is used as directed following all rules (i.e. no depressants - alchohol or other meds, etc.) I would rather try this and take a risk of addiction (don't know much of it) than eek through life not enjoying it. WTF? Everyone start using your logic and sense of reason and stop listening to reporters....they are not experts....they write and read stories. Plenty of MD's support this med for this purpose but are too damn scared to speak up. Honestly, I would be too if I spent all that time in med school and one silly fricken medicine could cost me my license.

Praying that this one makes it to the market in the next 5 years....but I doubt it.

hate to bring up an old thread but yes, Ghb/gbl/bdo is by far the most effective compound i have ever used for avoidance/SA issues.i have taken beta blockers and many anti-depressants with very limited success.ghb blows everything away imo but there are problems with its use..mostly the social stigma and you cannot use it more than once a day and have it maintain its effectiveness..again, just my opinion after having used it for years!

benzos, anti-depressants may help the anxiety but nothing has made me want to socialize like ghb.there is a big diference between social anxiety and being pro-social..

Hi Norse,
For social anxiety, consult your doctor and follow doctor's instructions if the doctor prescribes medication to treat your social phobia. Go through a cognitive behavioral therapy and taking deep cleansing breaths to treat social anxiety. Using targeted mental exercises are also helpful in refocusing your fears.
