I have AvPD, and I'm always scared about making contact with others because of the fear of getting hurt. With friendships, I'm very passive and rely entirely on the others to keep us connected, and even as they try, I'd repeatedly disappear from the face of the earth, believing I don't matter to them and cycling from feeling secretly disliked to... by pipnot

Hi everyone, Several years ago I was in a meeting at work - nothing unusual there - but I was hungry, and my stomach started rumbling. It rumbled a lot, and I left the meeting feeling very embarassed. Since then I have had problems sitting in meetings - I get anxious and worry about my stomach rumbling, and this anxiety seems to trigger more... by eliza_d

At work with one of my colleagues who is humorous and a tad popular with younger members of the team, I find myself getting upset (not externally) that when he makes jokes at my expense that I can't respond. My strategy is to laugh it off, but I just am unable to say anything in response. If I turn the same joke/insult back at him then it... by SilentAndShy

I've always been jealous others relationship in the sense that if I was friendly with someone and I saw them having a much better time with another person, I'd feel frustrated that they weren't doing that with me. I'm insecure and not that good with social relations hence why if I do make a friendship with someone then I tend to get a tad... by SilentAndShy

For some reason I'm panicking of all things over having them removed. The surgery is in less than 12 hours and has been looming over me for a month. I've asked my friends questions (I didn't get much time with this dentist and it's a new dentist to me) and none seem to have any real opinion. A majority truly lean towards "it was nothing, and the... by IDK94657

I've been in my job for three years and for as long as I can remember, I've always been shy and anxious. But I do like and am grateful for the job I have as it has provided its challenges and stressful periods (most if it linked to dealing with difficult customers on the phone and in person) However, I feel I struggle to express myself in... by SilentAndShy

Yes so its Rugs the schizophrenic partner I have:shyness: I ask my therapist how I could be more authentic towards him as I have felt that I have been harboring all this 'stuff' and it was always getting to me and adding to resentment even more and more. She told me that I should speak up to him about things that were important to me that may... by grapevine

I left here a few months ago or so. I'm now currently working full time as a care giver at a senior home. I also still see my life coach. Around April I stopped taking my meds. The withdrawal lasted a month and I declined in my mental health a lot. I eventually got back on my feet after that month and then for months I have never been so happy in... by dannyboy65

So has anyone similar issues as I do? When comes to my work life, it's all normal, i'm 0% shy, i'm talkative, I do my job very well, few days a week i teach IT classes so i'm interacting with people the whole time, i'm in the control of the moment, it feels very normal. I feel in abit of a pickle at work, primarily in that I'm stuck in the middle of on-going disputes between two colleagues who don't particularly like each on a professional level (even personally, maybe) One of my colleagues is someone who I respect both personally and professionally. She has been a major help to me since I started work at this... by SilentAndShy

I enjoy playing video games as a hobby. Been playing them since I was about 6 or 7 probably. These days, with home consoles, online play is a big draw but with that, comes partying up with other players and voice chatting. Most people will want to do this if you add them to your friend list. I just get such bad anxiety when I try voice... by Mikazuki1590

I attended a seminar today in which each of us were required to read certain parts of an article out loud. Each of us were assigned a section and instantly my anxiety began to ramp up. I have always been well read and can read and comprehend just about anything. On the occasion when I come across a word I've never seen before, it's usually not... by theoutsider

I have had well over a decade of psychotherapy. If I had to total it all up, I would say it was about 14 years. I don't mean to imply it was all with the same person. There were many therapists and many psychiatrists. I am just tallying up the total amount of time spent with anyone at all. I am 52 years old, and find myself in therapy again,... by Earthcircle
