Does anyone have any recommendations for a really good book to read? I know that's a broad question. I guess I'd be looking for something leaning toward the drama or thriller genre. Not really in the mood for sappy, inspirational, humorous, or anything like that.

^ Hm, I don't know a lot of dramas and thrillers, even though I have a few to read myself. (Shutter Island, Let The Right One In, etc.)

Maybe try this site? What Should I Read Next? Book recommendations from readers like you
Enter a book you like and it'll come up with other suggestions. I've yet to try it, but it looks cool.

Update: I forgot about this gem. Go Book Yourself
That's a pretty cool site. Added some books to my To-Read List on Goodreads from there.

Not necessarily thrillers, but two of my favorites are The Poisonwood Bible, and The Mosquito Coast. Often, with the more popular books, you can order them off Amazon and get them sent to you for just a few dollars.

I've seen the movie Mosquito Coast but I actually didn't know it was a book first. I may have to check it out. Thanks!

I wish there was a part of the world you could go to, or maybe just an alternative state of consciousness that everyone had access to. And this place would be made of cool, calm water with beautiful lights, colors, and music all around you. And your only obligation here would be to float in peace and soak it all up, readying yourself to return to the real world with all your responsibilities, anxiety, and stresses. It would be sort of a "charging" station for people, and you could choose to live your whole existence there if you wanted, or to share you experience with others. Weird, I know hehe, but it just seems pretty ideal.

That wouldn't be fair to the hydrophobic... and the rest would never leave.

I don't know about that. Sounds like it would get boring if you spent all your time doing it. It's the kind of thing I try to do/achieve every night with massaging, stretching, calm music, meditation, etc. But I wouldn't want to do it all the time, for the rest of my life. I do theses, as Courtney said, to relax, recuperate, and ready myself for the challenging things I have to do during the day.

Lol, well then you can make it your own, by choosing the colors, music, and atmosphere you like the best. And yes, people may decide to leave because even though this place would be utopia basically, there would be no room for change, improvement, or any real substance in your life. Dunno, but I think it would become too constant after a while.

Isn't there something like this in a movie? Where people go into deprivation chambers to relax, or something? I can't remember..
edit: I guess these exist in real life, apparently, not just movies. Would be an interesting thing to try.

I guess the desire for a place like that to chill out is why people take drugs and alcoholics get blind drunk.

I think I am seen around the town I live as the weird guy who runs. Seems like lots of people see me running and comment about it, people at work, people in supermarkets. Some are intruding on my running space as I run past. Lately, I've lost motivation to run, and I think this is the reason.
