This made me laugh hard haha

I just say live and let live, let others do what they want as long as they don't hurt anyone.

I was raised Catholic. I am atheist. I don't like or dislike religion. I just hate when people say they are agnostic, everyone is agnostic. It's possible a god does or doesn't exist, but no one is capable of knowing (agnostic). I think that religions aren't horrible, but a lot of horrible people subscribe to them. All religions contain violence and wars. I think too many people have their own faults but say that's how god wants the world to be. I think too many people, especially Christians, don't know what their own bible says. I also think atheists are just as bad as any Christian. Let's put it this way, if I have a kid, I want them to decide what they believe for themselves. But if they choose to be religious, they WILL read a direct translated version of their chosen holy book, and not watered down versions. And I would not let my child to go on the path of blaming their own hatred (racism, sexism, homophobia) on what their god wants them to do. Religion can also be used as a crutch in too many cases to the point where it is self destructive. Ever hear someone say God got them into college (and not their own hard work or by chance?) Or blame something horrible (someone getting raped or murdered) on the devil and saying God would never give them something they can't handle? But, on the other side of that, religion can be extremely motivational and uplifting. And those who know their religion, and know it well, can be some of the most inspirational people ever. I've known some incredibly educated religious people, and I guess that's why they don't annoy me. They have reasons for what they believe other than "because....!"

i think religion is a personal choice and not up to me to tell people to believe or not to believe..in other words it's not my business what people want to do when it comes to that subject.

if someone wants or enjoys a spritual life, thats nice.if someone doesn't want one, thats fine too,BUT NO one should tell another person what they should or should not believe in...as i said it's a personal choice.

Never bought it for a second even though my family is pretty religious.
P.S. - Only religion I truly dislike starts with an I and ends with an M.

I think religion is a bunch of bs. if you wanna believe in something, then believe it. stop starting wars and fighting like animals just because others don't believe what you believe. religion is toxic. spirituality is great though.

I strongly agree on this, if you believe you should be happy. If you don't, don't try to convice others, they have different opinions so you should respect them...

I wonder if my life has taken such a bewildering downward spiral of about 50 or more factors over the years, month by month, which I won't waste space with here. Dead people matter

Strong atheism while at school, as I was a loving scientist.

Some points, mostly in long-term hospitalisation, being overdrawn, or being really happy, when tears really happen. Not sure if I can change tack, and make it worth it.

It should be a binary switch - not fuzzy

I agree with Tyler Durden.. "F--k damnation, man! F--k redemption! We are God's unwanted children? So be it!"

My mother's a Christian. I can't even explore other religions because of her intolerance and claims that I'll go to hell if I do. I can't even buy a tarot deck because apparently it's against her religion. I'm not christian and I believe in my own god. After I realized how much Christianity wasn't for me, all Christians would shove their religion down my throat. I just can't believe in this wrathful, jealous god... That's what he is in my opinion. The Bible has some disturbing stories in it too.

I'm not saying we should abandon Christianity or any other religion, but, could some of the religious people be more tolerant of those who have different beliefs than them? My mom has no logic whatsoever, so she's a lost cause.

i believe there's some truth to almost every religion, but also a lot of falsehood. im really fascinated with religion and study them. i grew up in a strong christian household, but realized the contradictions and out-datedness of much of their beliefs. i dont just speak knowing nothing about religion and just trying to disprove anything. i do my research. and im not gonna belive one religion just because it says its the true religion (they all say that) and im not gonna belive everything they say. i create my own beliefs based on what i believe is true. i guess you could say im a bit new age

My opinion on religion is so radical, if I wrote it here, I would probably be bashed by a few religious members and perhaps be banned from the forum, lol.

I went to a catholic school and when I was 16 they gave us the freedom to make an essay about whatever we wanted. I chose the catholic church. The teacher told me it was very well written but that they could have kicked me out of school :p

I have gone from knowing very little about religion to obsessing over it the last couple of months. I find the idea of an afterlife specifically interesting but also extremely scary after reading about people's near death experiences. A lot of Christians threaten the idea of hell and some people claim to have been there through a near death experience. The idea of damnation for eternity is possibly the worst thing a human could ever come up with. I think it is very unethical to use this concept to have more people following their religion out of fear, especially if the people who claimed to have near death experiences are making it up.

Having said that, I was an atheist and now I consider myself an agnostic as I think it is pretty arrogant for any human to claim to be certain about anything supernatural. I also think humanism has a lot of potential for a modern day alternative to religion.

I would recommend the film Religulous for anyone who hasn't seen it.

That isn't fair. Oh wait, this must have been one of those tests of your "free will". You are only allowed the free will to make the right decision. Even though you are given the option to make the wrong choice, you can be damned for it.

Yep, religion is full of fairness.

I'm an atheist, but I couldn't stand that movie. I don't like seeing people get exploited or made fun of.

I know what you mean, it was pretty clear throughout that anything anyone had to say about religion wouldn't be taken seriously. I still found the whole film pretty interesting though.

I did know someone who was clinically dead for 3 minutes. So I asked him if he saw anything. I was hoping he would tell me there was a white light at the end of the tunnel, but no, he said there was nothing. If that is true then it kind of sucks big time.

If that is true then it is just more reason to appreciate life and not to have to worry about the unknown.
