How are you feeling?

Unsure of what to do. I really don't feel like making a thread, so I'll ask here and see if anyone can help me.

I recently applied for a job at a local convenience store/sandwich shop a couple weeks ago. This is the only place I found that was actually close to me (10 min. drive; I live in a rural area and everywhere else is 20+ min. drive away. Price of gas really sucks) that I could work at that I'm comfortable with and that is currently suitable with my other health issues. My friend also worked here before she moved out of state a couple weeks ago. Plan was she was leaving, I would apply, then I would be the replacement. Before she left, my friend told me her boss really liked my application. Thing of it is, I haven't heard back at all since I turned it in. So... should I go back and ask about it? I really don't know, or understand, proper job etiquette. I've heard more than once it's apparently appropriate to check-in with the employer about the job if you don't hear anything back from them within a week, but to me that really just sounds like you're pestering them. If they were actually interested in you, they would take the time to contact you right? Not wait around for you to make the move...? You'd think I'd know this by now, but I don't. :eek:mg:

I'm desperate for a job, as I am taking a whole year off as soon as I'm done with this last college course I'm taking (I'll be finished and getting my associate's next month) to focus entirely on myself, and my health, and to earn money before jumping right back into college again to continue my education. As much as I want to get started, I don't want to hurt my chances at the only job I found that I could work at. So basically, should I chase or should I wait?

Absolutely contact them. Giving them a call lets them know you're still interested, and they might have forgotten so this could be a reminder "Oh yeah! The girl with the great application! Forget to call her, woops!" As unprofessional as that sounds, it happens, they're people too :p I've had this issue several times and it never ever hurts to call and check on things, sometimes if you don't you miss a job opportunity. If it's been a week and you've heard nothing, you probably won't hear anything UNLESS you call.

Good luck! :)

I'm a little nervous. Tonight I'm going to a party being hosted by my Irish coworkers. Thankfully that means I'll already know 4 or 5 of them there. As silly as it might sound though, I'm worried about the accent thing. As it is, I often have to ask my coworkers to repeat themselves sometimes, and they have to do the same for me. We both talk pretty fast and have a hard time making out certain words the other person is saying. I'm going to be in a room full of people talking fast with strong Irish accents O_O hahaha. It's going to be fun, I'm sure, but I have a feeling I'm going to be saying "What?" a lot :p

Not sure what to do. My mom got a call from the dentist saying her check bounced. They also called my cell phone too. I asked her about it but she said the dentist got it all wrong. Her check actually cleared the bank and she even showed me her bank statement. I got another call today from the dentist's office about the same thing. My mom was irate so I told her to call them to clear this up. She said she will personally go to the bank tomorrow to check with the reps there. The assistant who left a voicemail on my phone asked me to call her back, but my mom said to stop worrying about it because she'll ask the bank tomorrow.

Actually, I was kind of angry for my mom. She was falsely accused of having a bounced check. It reminds me of the time when I was falsely accused of owing ~ $3500 to a private, for-profit institute. I had to deal with several phone calls to 2 debt collection agencies, tell them I never owed that school any money. I only attended class for 2 days before dropping out, and I even paid ~ $300 as down payment. They finally cancelled the account and corrected the mistake. I was very angry during the process, and kind of scared as well. I had doubts whether they would believe me and I wasn't a fighter. Defending myself was not something I do frequently especially with strangers.

So I feel my mom when she was falsely accused. It's understandable why she's angry.

I got a lot done so I am not feeling too bad. Now it's concert time!

There's been about a 30 minute silence now so I bet Bob Dylan comes out next. Pretty exciting! A gem in the middle of a stressful week.

I'm going to get a photo or two, but whenever I post photos, they don't work at all half of the time. Is it the photo size? I am ignorant here.

They are starting to scream down in the crowd. I hope he plays his old iconic tunes.

^ Thanks for the response. :) It's possible they could've forgotten, they are new owners after all. The woman and her husband just bought the store back in March and are in the works of redoing a lot of things. Last week was a holiday too, so I definitely wasn't expecting a call then. Maybe if I get a chance tomorrow, I'll go down and check in. If not tomorrow, then certainly Friday.

I'd do it Thursday, but I have a nutritionist appointment to go to and will be gone most of the day.

So many regrets, but there's one Biggest regret that trumped them all and literally changed my life 360 deg. I feel like i've been lied to, deceived, treated as inferior, replaceable, and a means to an end, like my life wasn't even worth much. I wished I was wiser back then to know the danger that lies ahead.

I agree with Opaline: definitely call them. It can't hurt your chances at all. :) Let me know how it goes.

I need to completely change my life.. I will be applying for an immigration to Australia.. Where I can start over a new life. I will save up for some money, leave my miserable parents and go there.. Even if it means I will have to flip burgers for a couple of years, I will do it for the sake of breaking this vicious cycle...

Hey, Graeme, so you are one hot dude? Are there any lakes where you can cool off?

Sorry, lack o' sleep tend tae make me funnier than ah actually am! 10 hours sleep across 2 day. Ach, cannae complain, though, keeps the depressive thought at bay for a wee while.

Ha! You & me both. My lake's safety concern is that the average year-round water temperature is only 4-5C! It freezes your brain. Instant hypothermia. Maybe Nessie would be more fun?

Do you have transportation to any lakes or parks just to get away from home?

Other than public transport, since ah don't drive. But even then there not much tae do - unless goin' tae movies is yer sorta thing? That about aw there is tae do in south-west Scotland. Go see the latest movie, get steamin' drunk from Friday til Sunday or re-enact scenes from the Scottish novel or film adaptation of Irvine Welsh's Transpotting! In other words - drugs!

Having one of those days where it doesn't seem like it will ever get better. Terrified of being left behind by everyone, with no one to share anything with, never making progress.

I always wonder why exactly I'm here. I know we all do, but at least if I didn't have anxiety issues I would have an active social life to give me a sense of purpose. That is the one thing more than anything else that makes me feel like life is worth living, because when you have people (outside of your family) who care about you and you care about them and you have fun together, you forget your worries and things just seem more fun, more positive, more alive.

But sometimes I really do think this will never ever happen for me. I'll just stagnate and watch everyone else live, trying to rationalize being alone and telling myself I don't need anyone anyway

I'm starting to get mad at myself. A coworker presented me and my friendless self an opportunity to contact someone my age. Messaged, person messaged back, and yet here I am, too scared to message again while that door closes. Didn't even realize I was avoiding messaging back until a minute ago. Ugh.

At this realization I think it's time for me to find my phone and do something about it.
