I am feeling 10 times better than what I was for the last few days. Yesterday was really crappy though, as all I did was basically cry from anxiety.
Last night I found my cat upstairs where he was hiding all day and once I brought him back down to get him to eat and drink, I saw that his other legs was also completely bare from where he just ripped out all his fur. So he has two very large, really chapped bald patches on him. I basically had a breakdown, as I believed there was something seriously wrong with him because all he did was hide and cower and was refusing to eat and drink (until I coaxed him and then he'd come back to himself for a bit) and ripping out his fur for whatever reason. Within two days, since scheduling that appointment the other day, he had turned nearly completely avoidant to me and wouldn't even come downstairs to eat or drink hardly.
Anyway, long story short I took him to the vet this morning nearly on the verge of tears and when the vet saw him, she barely batted an eye. His whole problem was a sudden allergic reaction to fleas. Since he already has stomatitis -- which was flaring up again (I try my best to treat it but it's so hard) -- everything just stressed him out completely. He got a shot of cortisone, some hardcore flea medicine, he has to take antibiotics for a week, and the vet told me to continue what I was doing with putting petroleum jelly on his skin. Apparently he should be back to acting himself within a few days time. I'm SO relieved it wasn't anything more serious. Maybe I overreacted, but how he was acting and how fast his behavior changed scared me and I was actually prepared to receive horrible news and to put him down this morning.
