Does visiting this site makes feel better when you're down?

No, not really.
I'm usually in a lot of pain when I look to sites like this and so, on the rare occasions I contribute something, it's nothing but bitter-sounding, contemptible drivel (of which this is a fine example:))

Those of you who genuinely gain something from interacting with one another here are truly lucky.

I new here. Never been able to keep up with any kind of forums-- always get bored and leave. The judgment's still out then.

It sure does. Getting that occasional second opinion from people who go through the same thing is a comfort words cannot describe. ;3

Heck, just knowing that that second opinion even exists is already a huuuuuuge help. ~W~

Usually. I don't feel as lonely.

That's usually how I feel, too. When I'm down, I turn on depressing music and get on this site. Even though I'm feeding my depression and making myself feel worse, I still do get comfort from being on here and seeing that I'm not the only one dealing with these issues.

No.... in fact sometimes I feel much worse after visiting... Other peoples problems remind me of my own, which allot of times reinforces the despair that I already feel....

I feel much better - especially when people call me "beautiful."

LOL :D I think everyone on this site is beautiful ;)

I have to thank SPW for helping me feel better about myself. Before I joined, I thought I was a horrible person that should avoid any contact with the rest of the world. All the good feedback I've been getting made me change my mind. I've also learned a lot about other people's mental problems. Funny how they all seem to have similar symptoms. Sometimes I wonder if maybe we each have a little bit of everything.

Anyway, thank you everyone for your kind words and helpful advice and for making me laugh :D You're all wonderful :)

It does! It's a great thing to know you're not alone. I had a self-hate episode today and coming here really calmed my nerve.

Usually when I feel like sh*t I just log on and read some of the threads I can relate to. That usually does the trick. :)

I think it makes me feel a lot better. Even if its just to vent your feelings in a thread, it makes you feel 100 times better to think people are reading it and caring.

I think i owe a lot to this site for getting better as it taught me a lot of things =)
Thanks spw :D

but the only negative thing here that alot of members keep talking about negative things andthis is very wrong for both the writer and the reader

because the reinforce this negative thoughts that the writer have

and feed it too to the reader
So you're suggesting people should stop posting negative things? We had that conversation recently.

http://www.socialphobiaworld.com/no-more-negativity-on-this-forum-27458/

ETA Site rules says "-carrying on an *Closed thread* argument in a new thread" is a violation, so I won't argue about it. But you might want to read it anyway.

I like coming on here and it's nice knowing i'm not alone, but when i do feel lonely and depressed i do get anxious posting how i'm feeling because on another social phobia website i used to go on a while back when i was feeling suicidal, a member messaged me telling me to grow up and that i should think of other peoples feelings before i post how suicidal i felt. ::(:

That was wrong of them. The very mentioning of suicide seems to scare some people, they don't want to think about it so they either don't take you seriously or think that you're only doing it for attention. Also it's very easy when you're on an upswing to hear someone say this and think to yourself "It's probably not that bad" when the reality when you're feeling low it can be. I think this was probably that kind of reaction. Of course there are just a***holes too. I think if you can't talk about that sorta stuff here - where can you?

Sometimes the mere act of typing is therapeutic. I'm not a journal/blogger-type person, so I do find it helpful to write posts from time to time. I've come and gone lots of times over the years though. I socialize horribly on here (even though I'm always up for a message/chat), so I try to just see it as a place to get some thoughts out, and read some like-minded experiences from other people.
