All but one team (Toronto) in the MLB is based the US. So why do we call the championship event the World Series?
Some have speculated the name derived from the New York newspaper, The World, which reported the game results. But this myth was debunked by the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1999. Barney Dreyfuss, owner of the Pittsburgh Pirates, deserves credit for coining the term. In 1903, he challenged the Red Sox (then known as the Boston Americans) to a "World's Championship Series." It has been held every year since except twice (in 1904 and 1994).
Although the league is US-based, players are scouted from around the world. Countries such as Mexico, the Dominican Republic, Venezuela, Japan, Taiwan, and Cuba are all represented in the MLB. In fact, in the 2006 season, players born outside the US represented 27.4 percent of the MLB.
Considering that the MLB is the world's premier league for baseball and many players are recruited from outside the US, calling the championship series the World Series is not too far-fetched.

They do that with all American professional sports. The NBA champions are the "world basketball champs." Same with football (American football) and hockey. It's always a point that has annoyed me. I know that the NBA, MLB, and whatnot are some of the biggest and most premiere leagues in the world, but I don't like it. There's nothing wrong with being called the "national champions."

Country... its just in me... it's apart of me. To listen to it reminds me of long drives to and from Jacksonville and such with family members. Brings tears to your eyes alittle. They are so much a part of me.
I had bf that was country like and drove a big black F550 Truck....relationship went wrong...

I'm fed up with every single day, at least twice a day thinking "I could die right now" which then triggers off thoughts and feelings which make me feel that it's going to happen at that very moment just because I thought it... No matter how much I tell myself that it's stupid, it won't go. *Sigh*

How I feel?
Well, I took a day off, and since tomorrow is a holiday too, I'll have four days without work. That's nice.
I saw my friends a lot the last few weeks, that was nice too.
Yet, in this very moment, I feel terribly lonely.
In about half an hour I will hop on my bike, and will bike along the river back to my flat.

I mean, what kinda life are you livin' when your actions are dictated by the judgements of others? Eh?! Not everyone is gonnae like ya! And see if we just got over it, dealt with, and accept that wee fact, maybe... just maybe, Social Anxiety Disorder wouldn't be as severe a problem as it is. Just a wee thought for the day, there - as it were. :thinking:
Oh, and why is it that because yer the f*#kin' youngest family sibling, that means yer still treated like a child? Huh?! No, not a fully grown, sensible 20-something adult. A f*#kin' child! No wonder I feel outta place at family gatherings! Just because yer parents are the "moral authority", that doesn't mean they always right. I know... shockin' innit?! When you realise that...
And one last thing, then I'll bugger off for a wee while: Since when did havin' the odd drink of alcohol led tae full blown alcoholism? I know, in Scotland it's kinda hard tae see where that line is drawn. But tae me, right, that's like sayin' smoking weed is the ironic gateway tae shovin' drugs up yer own arse! But then, of course, one drug is legal and other is not. Both do considerable harm to ya, but still... let's leave the double standards of War on Drugs government policy aside, shall we? :ironicsmile:
Anyway, all I'm sayin' is, excess in moderation. I mean, if yer sensible enough, the you know the risks and consequences. "If" and "sensible" being the keywords there. But if yer stupid enough (ie more teeth than brain cells or common sense), then maybe you deserve alcohol poisoning?! Sorry, to seem cold or cruel, but excess in moderation does have it's limits.
Just another of my nonsensical rants. Take nae notice, I tend tae talk a load o' s*#te half the time! :sarcastic:
