The Hobbit - An Unexpected Journey - 8.5
- - -

It didn't feel like a Lord of the Rings movie, and I'm quite glad it didn't. While I love the Lord of the Rings trilogy, and while it holds up all the mystery and beautify of it, mood wise The Hobbit sets itself apart. Considering this is a different adventure, I really like that.

I watched The Hobbit last night and I agree. My dad didn't like that it was different from LOTR, but I did. I read the book just before Christmas and I was wondering how they were going to make 3 movies out of such a small book, but I think they did well. 8/10

I think we take it for granted nowadays that movies that spawn from literature do a infamous poor job at pacing. I hear it time after time again from friends and family how things are blatantly left out, ignored and distorted in concept/story to fit it in the 120 minutes time frame.

That's something I've always felt about this movie franchise, they never really seem to shy away from taking the scenic route story wise. Which I love. There was obviously enough story to be told from that one short book. Enough to inspire a trilogy even.

Which makes me face palm at all the directors/movie writers that seem to be unable to do a good- or even decent, job with comparable quantities of material, with one of movies.

^ I thought it was pretty cool that a lot of the encounters in An Unexpected Journey were like briefly mentioned in The Fellowship of the Ring.

Yes, it was. That's a reason why I usually love origin stories and prequels. I'll be all like ''Ha! I know what that is. I've heard about it before..''.

Midnight Express (1978) - 9/10

Billy goes to Istanbul. Billy buys some hash. Billy gets caught trying to smuggle it out of the country, and he spends the next five years in a squalid Turkish prison. This is a very dark, brutal film, based on a true story. Not for the squeamish.

Universal Soldier: Day of Reckoning

was the quality of Expendables 2

a bit of Total Recall, Back2the Future, Memento, and Django... the theme of dying
I need to go back over all the last ones again

I lived my life on the principle of Terminator when I was 10. Aliens, and a few others...
I never give up, and will do anything to reach my goal. This effort seems not to work properly. The world against you

Life of Pi - 9.5

I'm not even going to dirty it up with personal opinions. Just go and see it for yourself. It's well worth it.

I really liked this too, even though a lot of people I know didn't. The funny thing is, I had tried to read the book years ago and didn't like it.

OZ The Great and Powerful

It sucked. Not sure what they were thinking when they filmed it. I was definately sucked in by all the media hype. Worst movie I have seen in a long time.

Oz is on my "to see" list, but I've been afraid that it was all hype. I've heard a lot of people have felt the same way. I'll wait until it comes out on DVD.

Has anyone seen Admission? I've been thinking about going to see it.

The Hunger Games - 9.5/10

I went into this thinking "huh, this is really popular so it's probably a little overrated" but came out thinking "crap this is totally awesome now I'm just like everyone else" because it was totally awesome. Not so much the "hunger games" part of it, but the politics and whatnot around it, and the idea of the dystopian world it takes place in is just engulfing. Engulfing is totally the wrong world, but yes, awesomeness interesting smartnessism of a movie. And book! I want to read the book now, rarely does a movie make me want to read the book. (usually the opposite)
