Hunger Games - 6.5/10

So, I walked in having new clue what it was about. But I kept hearing reviews, like 'it was amazing' or 'it sucked'. It was predictable, yes, but at least it kept me entertained. And hey, I was actually barely even paying attention. We just spend the whole movie talking. So don't take my review too seriously, haha.

A Bug's Life - 9/10

Caught this on the Disney Channel yesterday! It's been so long since I've watched it. The art and animation still amazes me. Pixar is timeless. :)

Prince Of Persia: The Sands Of Time - 5/10

This movie definitely wasn't what I thought it was going to be. I found the movie to be quite jumpy and confusing. I felt some of the parts were just thrown into the storyline rather than planned out. Kind of like, "Oh, we forgot this. Let's throw it in here!" :p The only thing that was exciting about this movie were some of the fight scenes. Other than that, it was long and pretty boring as well. I've never played any of the games either, although I've always wanted to. Maybe it would help if I played the games first? Hm, I doubt it.

Deadwood (series): 6/10 stars

It's weird so far but the sole fact that it's a cowboy/Western show, I like it. And it's got Timothy Olyphant and that guy from Hardball, Dickey.

The Gate: 2/10 stars

Sorry, I'm just not a fan of children-dominated horror movies unless it's Children of the Corn or something.

The Descendants 8/10
I thought this was going to be a run of the mill, mushy rom com. But, it ended up to be pretty hilarious in a dark, quirky kind of way, and was an interesting and emotionally involved story. Overall it was a surprisingly good watch.

Fight Club - 9/10

It was fantastic! I was wondering what all the hype was about over the years. Well, now I know why. ::p: Really, really good. I was impressed. Totally did not see that twist coming at the end either, and I'm normally pretty good at spotting those things.

Side note: Jared Leto is creepy as a blonde. Just saying.

I Live in Fear. I'm a big Kurosawa fan so naturally I loved this film. A very bizarre leading performance by Toshiro Mifune ,but I guess that's a testament to his versatility.

Although the film specifically centres on post-WII nuclear fear, which isn't so relevant in modern times, the central motif of what is a sane response to living in an insane world resonated with me. Is there such thing as a well-adjusted human being, or do we have to supress the undeniable harsh realities of existance in order to function? Isn't that a form of insanity?

^ Aw, really? I was looking forward to seeing this. I'll still watch it eventually though, since I do love the original series so much.

Answers to Nothing: 1/10 stars

There was absolutely nothing I liked about what I saw of this movie, which was only for 30 minutes. If it got better, it couldn't have been much better with the boring plot. The problem was the movie was too pointless and random. I just didn't care for the film's ideas. Maybe I missed the point of the film, idk.

Locked up Abroad (Nat. Geographic series), Saudi Arabia: 7/10 stars

This show was about a homosexual nurse that is promised a great job that is fair in Saudi Arabia and then is shocked when he finds out that homosexuality is punishable by death, and even more shocked when he shows up there and sees that it's not what he was promised.

The show is fantastic because it is very educational about what things are like in different countries, in this case Saudi Arabia.

Safe starring Julianne Moore. Wow. Might be up there as one of my favourite films. There is something very "wrong" with Carol who seems to be suffering psychosomatic disorders in response to her environment. Even a change of scenery dosen't seem make her "better". While initially it may seem that the film is a one dimensional satire of the afluent class, the film subtlely broadens in scope, posing very unsettling questions about the nature of self and the alienating existance of modern society. The ending is just quietly devastating.

Pumping Iron: 6/10 stars

Of course, seeing Arnold then is funny when you compare him to now, especially when you think about how he was governor of California. You could see how many women he got with in the 70s and 80s which must have been a whole lot considering his fame, money and willingness to get with many women.

What I think is interesting is that it's easy to see how he cheated on Maria Shriver. A guy that gets with that many women is often the guy who cheats.

On the other side of that, Arnold has always been a free spirit with a good personality as you can see in this flick. I would imagine steroids weren't tested for back then because I'm pretty sure all of these guys in this Mr. Olympia competition used steroids.

Still, it's crazy how hard they work on their bodies and how much pain they endure.

The movie was a good documentary, especially for it's time.

Brotherhood: 10/10 stars

It had the most original plot I've seen in a while. How this movie didn't gain a lot of fame, I'll never know. I'm not sure if it even came out in theaters?

What this movie did a great job of was keeping me interested throughout the entire film. It was gritty and intense.

You may be surprised by my rating because this movie is so underground-like. You have to watch it to see what it's about. Just reading the quick summary on the cover isn't enough.

The film was as close to perfection as can be. I think that film popularity can be overrated at times. Sometimes you'll find a gem if you take a few chances with these movies like I did on this one.
