^ But is good if you are the person in charge that they are trying to......um, be nice too!

Its the people above me that are doing it to the people above all of us. Blatantly kissing ***, like above and beyond. I can't respect people like that. How ridiculous.

I almost made a "Remus" joke. ;)
^:giggle:
You could PM me the joke you were thinking of?

Don't get me wrong, I'm not totally anti-establishment but i refuse to bow down and be their "yes man" too.
^I only suck up to the boss when I will benefit from it myself.
Maybe those guys are doing because they need to?
I don't know about over there, but job security no longer exists here anymore, many people have to suck up to the boss as a matter of ensuring their continued employment when things get slow.

They don't have to. They just want to be the pets.

Its probably an easy thing for many people to simply ask "Is there any work going here??", but I find it almost impossible. I feel so worthless, defective and incompetent, even though I know I'm not

I feel the same way. When I was looking for retail jobs it was horrible going into stores and asking if I could fill out an application or drop off a resume. Now I'm just applying for jobs advertised online and it's still awful. I feel like a reject because I don't get called back much. I'm capable of working but it feels like I'm just not good enough. Everyone else is better than me. The longer it goes on, the harder it is to keep trying. It's so depressing.

Dont wait on them to call you. You call them. Show interest. I thought the place i work at now was gonna get a restraining order for me cause i called them so often. It has worked several times for me.

There's a lot of bad advice about job searching floating around out there. That's a prime example. It might actually work once in a while but most of the time it's a bad idea. If they're not interested, all that's going to do is piss them off. If they are interested, that might annoy them enough to change their mind. Maybe they haven't looked through the applications yet. Maybe they're waiting until after the due date before calling people. Maybe they don't want a hundred applicants emailing their resumes and then clogging the phone lines the next day. Maybe they're just busy with other things and they'll get to hiring when they get there. If the manager had 200 resumes to read, they probably aren't going to have a flipping clue who I am when I call and they probably don't want to drop what they're doing and pull up my application at that moment. Once you apply, it's up to them to decide to move forward or not.

Also, take note of the post I quoted. If it's difficult to pick up a phone or walk into a business and ask if they're hiring, it's difficult to call and ask if they received my application and whether they'd like to meet with me. I'm not a confident or aggressive person anyway. Pestering someone won't suddenly take me up a notch from mediocrity. If anything, it will be clear how nervous I am and I'll become even less appealing. Chances are, they aren't interested anyway and now they have to tell me directly. I can't deal with that rejection. I'd rather hear nothing.

Being on the management side:

I get a lot of people who walk into the gate asking for jobs. On the minimum wage level it is very much a gamble for everyone. Very few managers really plan long ahead, so it is mostly in the line of "I need someone, this guy is at the gate, and he doesn't seem too bad, so I'll take him."

That also depends on how busy I am and what sort of mood I am in.(mostly bad)

Having no resume is almost better than having one with spelling mistakes.

I've often thought it would be nice to do my recruiting from this forum.

A few literate people who don't talk to each other and avoid eye contact is my idea of the ideal workshop. We can communicate by passing notes.

The world of people is like a Spanish inquisition, and I fail every time.

Or maybe people are failing you?

For me it seems like people are always dropping the ball or that they don't give a crap.

I can't really fail people because in their minds I don't even exist.

I should send some CVs but I'm not exactly sure where to look for job openings. I think my clothes don't fit me well because I'm short and skinny (both casual and professional clothes). I also think I would come across as uninterested in most job interviews.

Well well well its Thursday yet again. This means I'm gonna get eye raped by the cleaning woman. Yay. Fugly old troll-ish woman is old enough to be my mom and its disgusting. She makes it a point to seek me out and talk to me while undressing me with her eyes very noticeably. How gross. Don't get me wrong, i like being chased and flirted with and undressed with eyes.... as long as she's within a decade of my own age! Ugh. I don't mean to sound shallow but come on! I just hope she never sees me changing in the locker room or, God forbid, showering in there. And its not even that she's nice, she's not.

Aw... I was a cleaning lady for a few years.
'eye raping' people was about the best part of the job, man!
The rest of the time, you're rushing from room to room, scrubbing toilets so imagining people naked is about as fun as it gets.
