Kia,

We all need to feel appreciated and valued, but unfortunately with this world and many people in it (you completely hit the nail on the head with your description of many people!) we can't always have that. So perhaps the best course of action is to learn to appreciate and value yourself first and foremost.

Also, take comfort from the fact that, although you may not know them, there are people in the world who definitely would appreciate and value you more than anyone else.

I appreciate your kind words on here, Kia. I think you hold great value as a person. I very much value the fact you're so different from most people, that is your greatest asset in my eyes.

Don't take being treated like rubbish lying down. Tell the people when they do it how you feel, and remove anyone from your life who continues to treat you in such a way and remains unrepentant in all but words. (Says the girl who lets everyone walk over her lol) But always give people a second chance in case they're genuine.

You make it sound like you're definitely, 100% going to get heartbroken again, which may not be the truth! There's nothing wrong with being a little more vigilant this time around, but give her a chance - you could be surprised. :)

I have had a 100% track record so far. I wont hold my breath. Rule number one of life: Dont expect anything to go your way - EVER. But don't worry - I can turn on the charm if I need to. I will remain vigilant - but open...just.

Absolutely. I think Kia's a great person. Wait until you meet him face-to-face, then the awesomeness shines. :)

There you go, Kia. Put that in your pipe and smoke it! ;)

I hope this one is a combo breaker. :perfect:

I'll add to that.. The best rule to follow is this one: Hope for the best, prepare for the worst and expect nothing. ;)

I realise hope may be lacking, but it's very important to have.

Thanks Starry - and Mikey.

I do value myself though - I think I am awesome (well mostly) it's everyone else who thinks I am worthless.

but anyway - OK, we will see. Just for a change I would kind of like be appreciated in the moment rather than someone being reflective and feeling lonely.

But alright. Thanks. I appreciate the insight.

Let us know how this one goes, okay? I'm interested. :)

Expect nothing. Seems awfully dispassionate and indifferent. Where is the line between hope and expectation? I guess its the best way to be though. Expect nothing and never be dissapointed. Expect nothing and desire nothing. The world would seem awfully grey to me to expect nothing - but you are right. I lose hope for the goodness of the world to expect nothing - but I guess I keep being proven right - on a personal and global level.

^^ Well it's more like don't expect any particular outcome, be content that things could go either way... The hope provides support and the preparation for the worst provides a safety net.

I've been awake now for 4 hours... When oh when is my husband going to wake up? *Sigh*

I am already a pessimist. I just don't like getting excited about things, or to feel good about something that may happen - it's unfortunate that now I feel, to protect my own feelings that I have to quell any feelings of excitement or anticipation if it ever occurs within me.

I tell you man - if you could just see the world through my eyes and experience the things that I have had to deal with - people would understand my point of view a bit better.

ok, i'll take the bait.

why don't you tell us, and get it off your chest?

you might feel better

If you were to make a robot capable of learning and acting on it's own, if advanced enough, could this eventually result in actual conciousness? Could this machine, for all intends and purposes, become a person? I'm not talking about robotic apocalypse kind of conciousness. I mean conciousness at all.

Our own bodies are biologically logical machines in essence. This often makes me wonder.

Sure. If it's advanced enough and would be able to change its own programming and whatnot, then yes, it could become a person. We are just blood and tissue and some electric and chemical charges too, nothing magical.

One thousand posts. One thousand. That's hard to believe.

It's hard to believe that only six months ago I was a timid newbie, too scared even to post at all.

Thanks, SPW, for making me feel at home, for helping me to find my voice. Thanks to the people who read my poems, the ChatBoxers, the word association players, and everyone else. You've all made a huge difference in my lonely life, and I wouldn't care to live it without you again. I wish you all the best. Cheers. :brindis:

^ Glad to have you on the forum, Graybeard. :) I remember when I first joined I didn't think I'd even post that much or stick around, I was really nervous too. But now here I am, a little over 2 years later with over 5,000 posts. I blame you guys. ;)
