Does anyone else get hideously embarrassed while watching tv?

Yes, I empathize so strongly with the protagonists that I feel embarassed when they get embarassed. I do this when watching TV or reading fiction.

Particularly if it's a strong sex scene and there's others in the room.

This too. Especially when I'm watching a program with my parents. It makes me cringe and look away.

No. I haven't had a TV in my house since late October 2012 and I am not planning on buying one soon. I want to see if I can go without a TV in the house until 2014. I think I can.

Dya know my youngest sister and my step dad always cringe when someone is in a particularly embarrassing situation on t.v.....like there's a comedy series that comes on tv now and again called 'Balls of steel' there's a UK version and an Australian version and it's where special guests go out of their way to trick and play pranks on the public and sometimes celebs for a hidden camera set-up.....and I absolutely pi.ss myself laughing but my sis and step dad can not even watch it they have to leave the room and I find it so frustrating that they can't enjoy it the same way I do.

If any of you guys haven't seen the series and you like that kind of thing then you have to watch it online for a good laugh man. The annoying Devil is one of my fav's.

I watch most thinks on the computer, and occasionally I get so embarrassed for the characters that I have to stop whatever I'm watching (or sometimes reading) for a bit.
If it's particularly bad I stop watching all together, which is a shame cos I've missed some really good stuff.

Yes, I do this too. But unless it's something I've seen before, I don't turn away or turn it off because I just have to know how it ends/gets resolved. I'll even cringe for characters who are not necessarily doing something embarrassing by most people's standards, but doing something that I myself have never been able to do, like taking risks that could end in failure and/or rejection.

My brother-in-law won't watch certain types of movies because he can't stand seeing characters in embarrassing situations, or making fun of themselves.

This is a pretty common thing, lol. I used to do the same thing with movies/t.v. shows.

YES! I can't even watch elimination scenes in any kind of show... because I feel horrible for those that get eliminated. I change the channel... incuding any other kind of embarrassing situations. I can't do it.... lol

Do you watch TV with other people?

Never done that.

If someone's in the house, TV is off. Spending all my life alone, I watch TV & movies because there are imaginary people there who I can see and hear, because... I am the camera

Living with people, we'd go out at night, and come back home and make sure the TV is off. Get beers and cook & eat.

Ahhh... listen to a lot of music together. We all had turntables in the house! People came to flock together to listen :applause:

Best was all the best when I finished my pizza delivery shifts with plenty off pizza for all

wow yeah that happens a lot but most of the time is when I am in the street and witness something embarrassing or even violent, and I feel embarrassed for that person. then there is this feeling of responsibility for what is happening like guilt... maybe is because when I see that happening it reminds me of my self and what it is that this person is feeling and going through. issues maybe that are not resolved and jump at us whether they are in tv or real life.

I find it very rare for a TV-show or movie to illustrate exactly how embarrassing, painful and awkward real life can be. Because of the nature of screenwriting, there's always some sort of resolve to a situation, things coming together, a happy ending, etc. In real life things happen and they often remain unresolved painful memories for the rest of your life that you'd rather forget about.

So I rarely have this. Unless it's like a real person being interviewed and the moment is very painful.

i know exactly how you feel... this is why i cannot watch shows like American Idol because i can't handle watching someone fail. i get embarrassed for them... but i guess you understand that too.

Yes, I can relate, because I am afraid that other people think I'm watching stupid things or embarrassing things, while they do not judge me at all, probably. Even with music, I can't listen to sad songs or odd commercials.

Yeah I do. Ridiculous but sometimes I even leave the room for a few seconds until the scene -whatever it is- is over. Ridiculous, but I can't handle emotions in real life and I can't handle them on TV either.
