"Being positive will bring good things to you..." Do you believe in this?

i think it's less about 'being positive' (which sounds really meaningless to me) VS. choosing to love yourself and care for yourself through whatever happens in your life, which would include looking on the bright side of things to allow yourself to not stress. You can't skip the step of choosing to fight for yourself and care for yourself, and expect to be positive without it

Why do you need to get banned? Just stop...coming here. Or delete all the content of your posts if you're worried about it being seen. No need for the tantrum-throwing.

A positive attitude is more attractive, so yeah I believe in that.

The thing is, it's all about talking to other people. All the positivity in the world won't mean much if you never act on your fear and go out and try to be around people and talk with people.

I think it's more about challenging fears as opposed to positivity. It's easy for me to sit here and say "everyone will love me if I walk into a room where people are socializing." It's another thing to actually step up to the plate and do the action and go into a bar and try to socialize with those people.

Once you are there, of course a positive attitude will make you easier and more fun to talk to.

Anyway I had already answered two out of three groups and I was going to start the toughest one when the teacher said we had to turn the tests in. I panicked since even though it was one in three groups, it was worth almost 50%. Needless to say I couldn't do anything properly because I was way too nervous, ended up writing some random formulas just to say I wrote something, even though I didn't even manage to understand the exercise completely.
So yeah, I was more confident than ever for this test and now it's going to be my worst mark in 2 years. I can still do an exam in February but it's basically the two tests together so I'll have to study everything again, and I have another exam the day after that. I'm also throwing away a pretty high mark that I got on my first test.

I guess my positive thinking didn't really work out for the best.

I know what you mean. When I take a timed test, a little bit of anxiety helps because it motivates me to hurry up and finish it on time. But I notice that when I'm feeling overconfident, I have no worries but this can screw me up on the test. I work more slowly and don't pay much attention to the time so I end up not finishing on time.

I might be wrong but I think positivity is something we just can't have automatically, it must be natural. For example, when we face our fears and gradually start to make progress we're going to have a more positive mind set than earlier. No one can feel positive at all times, when we face life challanges or problems that keep us from getting what we want we are going to be down on our dumps. We might get ourself psyched for a moment or two but it'll eventually wear off because deep down we know there're issues that need to be worked on, or problems that need to be solved.

POSITIVE THINKING ?? Whats that !

All i do is to think..generally ..all i come up with is the depressing stuffs..so no use fot positive thinking.

Well all"normal" people around me believe in being happy all the time, smiling etc.so i guess they look at the bright side of life.

They ask why are you sad?
I want to ask what are you happy about.

The question..what i think about positive thinking making good things happen.
NO
bad things will happen even if your a positive thinker.
according to me that is.

I too think ..i will think+ but the negative aspect of my brain is too strong.
I cant change it.

Positive thinking led to the Columbia space shuttle disaster. Management was so confident that it didn't bother doing more safety checks. Even when some engineers complained, they pretty much were ignored. And let's not forget the tanking of the economy in 2008. Companies, execs, and bankers grew so confident and greedy that they didn't foresee the bursting of the credit bubble.

Positive thinking does not necessarily make good things happen. Realistic thinking is something that I'll buy into.

I think not really positive thinking as in "psyching yourself out", but a positive accepting and realistic relationship to reality and who we are and how we can grow.

Those examples really have nothing specific to do with positive thinking. You can bend everything gone wrong in history that way then.. Hitler's holocaust was also positive thinking from his point of view then. I think it has more to do with blind ambition and the 2008 crisis has a lot to do with human greed. Greed doesn't equal positive thinking persay.

As with everything, I think there needs to be a balance between positive and negative thinking. Negative thinking will keep you on your toes and alert to the problems that can arise, and positive thinking will be there to tell you that, despise those problems, you can do it if you try hard enough.

At several points in my life, I put myself into social situations thinking "I've had plenty of therapy. I must be better now." This was a kind of positive thinking, but it was sort of rational too. After all, therapy is supposed to work. People say it does. Anyway, I would put myself into a social situation and there would be a terrible reaction. People would start talking about how weird I am, or they would find me offensive. It would be a real shock, since I honestly was thinking "I'm okay now. Thank god for therapy. Let's go and be social!" Talk about a rude awakening. At this point, I am more avoidant than ever.

^This. I also have a slight problem with. People tend to tell me that I'm ALWAYS negative and I answer back that is not negativism but just being realistic but someone else told me that the excuse of negative people is to say that 'they are realistic when in reality is just our fatalistic way of thinking'. I mean, what the hell? Is it really? Do we put excuses to keep being guarding our negative thoughts? Because I certainly don't like to be like this but I feel that at this point in my life it will be quite difficult to change that.

That's all depends on what you are thinking about. It's possible to be overly-optimistic and it's possible to be overly-pessimistic.

What these people are telling you are overgeneralizing statements.

My guess is the people that told you those things are optimists. They are trying to make you feel bad about not being an optimist.

I'm a realist too, and I don't see anything wrong with being a realist.

I'm sorry, families are really damn tough. Both my siblings are married and have kids. My mother keeps on dropping that fact that she wants a grandson from me (I only have nieces). My dad insists that it is my responsibility to carry on the family name. I know real old school retrogressive ****. My brother, jokes I am gay because I have never had a serious girlfriend, but that is a whole different post. The day I finally told everyone off after being so frustrated with them was so liberating. I still have a relationship with my family but I am not particularly close with them anymore. Right now it is just me against the world, it can be really lonely sometimes but I would rather not have the former.

I think the important thing is to keep trying to survive and achieve what you can. To find a little peace here and there on the way. It is not possible to positive all the time, but it is important not to give up.

I think your problem is labeling something as failing. I know these new age ideas you are talking about and the majority of people that propose these ideas admit that the majority of people give up before they get the changes because they get impatient and things dont happen for them when they want them to. What they label as the "Law of Attraction", requires patience.

If you think that thinking positive for a small amount of time will produce results after years and years of negative thinking, you are mistaken. I do admit that in these videos the people advocating this way of thinking make it seem much easier than it is because it isnt easy. To completely change the way you are used to perceiving the world is a difficult task and it requires discipline and motivation.
