You'll be playin the bones in no time. I had an electronic set, bought the Yamaha speakers to it and would hook my phone up to it. I mean the headphones were good, but you cant beat hearing the thud of the bass drum out loud..
I'd get on YouTube and look up 'drum-less tracks' and thats how I learned. It's also much more enjoyable playing to fav songs instead of just playing to a metronome.

Ye think so, eh...? Am no sure... as ah huv’nae played an electronic drum kit since I was 13, 14. As I wanted to learn the drums, originally, but switched to guitar after finding the drums a wee bit too difficult to teach myself how to play at the time. And ah wus’nae that good, to be honest.

That said, I made a fair bit of progress when I started out on guitar. Going from basic chords, to learning how to read tab and playing my fav songs within a matter of months. So, we’ll see... I supposed the drum software I’ve been using to create my drums tracks via samples has gave me better understanding of how to transition one drum part to the next.

Oddly enough, it’s a Yamaha electronic kit that I’m looking to get. :) I can connect it to my computer and assign it to the virtual instrument plugin I’ve been using to write my drum tracks. So, that’s handy...

Ah don’t know if I should just get the Yamaha KP65 kick drum pad which has room can accommodate a double bass pedal setup? But ah don’t know if that me getting ahead o’ masel’.

Cannae say I’m looking forward to my nieces seeing the electric drum kit. It’s bad enough they prefer being around me cuz I’m not loud n’ aggressive, they don’t need another reason to stay upstairs in my room. Ah mean, they even helped me take apart and pack up a computer desk ah recently sold on eBay. Helping me with the screws and get it into it’s box. Once they see the drum kit they’ll never be oot ma room, they’ll be upstairs everyday ! Ah just know that’s how it’ll be... “Graeme !! Can we play your drums? Yay, watch me, Graeme !! Graeme, can ye should me how to play this song”

Well, am no sure how I’m going to learn as such. Other than listening to and figuring out the drum parts to my fav songs. As I don’t think there’s anyone in my local area that does private drum tuition. The only thing I’ve found terms of online lessons, is this YouTube channel called Drumeo. I think it’s based in Canada. Just stumbled across ‘em one day looking for a music documentary to watch, and found a couple of drum documentaries done by them, which were quite interesting. Anyway, that channel has a mix of lessons and in-depth technique videos which should be useful.

Or, if ah could find a PDF file just breaking down how to read the sheet music notation for the drums in relation to the kit that would be a great start.

Youtube is actually a great teacher. So many free lessons, and you don't feel stupid re-repeating the same lesson/s over and over if you need to.
You go at your own pace.
Once you get the basic back beat happening the world is your oyster - or snare..

Drumeo is good, but I'd not limit myself to just one style of teaching. I personally found some things worked from some lessons while others didnt. Yet other teachers/lessons taught me the same thing and I picked it up.

Another thing I learned was sometimes you need to just get into and FEEL the beat happening. Rocking out to a tune with a VISUAL aid is something that can really help, I used these vids a lot.

Yeah, I’ve found that as well... I also came to find that stuff that I was never taught while getting those initial 2 years of guitar lessons isn’t nearly as difficult as it was made out to be.

I get what yer saying about the lessons. I found that with my guitar lessons, like after I quit for a wee while and went back to lessons I got and mastered techniques that I was struggling with prior to quitting. As for getting into it and the whole feel of the song, I tend to do that with my guitar playing, anyway. So, that would be so difficult to transfer over to the drums. It’s just the whole hands and feet coordination and keeping in time that I’ll probably struggle with than anything else. Not that I want to limit myself to just video lessons, I’ll see what books are available as well for beginner level drummers. I’m just not sure what my starting point should be for getting back into playing the drums?:unsure:

Thanks for the advice, nonetheless, Pug. I’ll keep all that in mind. ;)(y)

The electronic drum kit should come with a built in metronome function. To help with basic coordination, set the metronome to a slow speed and practice alternating the bass drum and snare beats. Once your brain starts to recognize the pattern it'll become easier.

Just a note on the metronome. If you set it to extremely slow, it can make it harder to alternate. So find a pace you can alternate comfortably.

Cheers for that suggestion about the metronome, Pug. ;)(y) Slightly less hesitant about learning the drums now, just a wee bit. Am actually mair worried that my oldest sister is going to start encouraging my nieces to play once I get the electronic kit set up, as I said before. Mind you, ah will’nae exactly be stopping them in that regard.

Ah hope their mother does’nae get to the point where she refuses to come n’ visit anymore cuz all the kids want to do is play the drums. I’m a bad enough influence on them as it is... that’s it got to the point where my oldest niece will question me if I don’t happen to have my guitar on my lap when she comes upstairs to see me. As well as my somewhat decent drawing abilities.

Me starting out on the drums...

Need to get stuff done, but cannae be arsed, cuz I’ve got a lot to do. :(

So, to take ma mind off that, ah restrung and changed the tuning pegs on my electric guitar, then decided to play for a wee while. Eventually ended up writing a guitar riff that ah actually liked enough, so decided to record it. :D

Oh, and ah ordered my electronic drum kit... this should be fun !
For me, at least, the neighbours might not be as chuffed once ah get the kit hooked up to speakers.

Absolutely knackered. Still tired whenever I get up in the morning, and I’m back in my old routine of getting up early. Though, I’m getting to sleep at, like, 2 or 3 o’clock in the morning. So, it either insomnia or the creative side of my mind becomes more focused and active at night ? But, then, I’ve heard that’s quite common for folk who make music.

Thats awesome!

Awesome, but as ah said before: a wee bit mental... or that might just be me still in shock ? Cuz me trending on SoundCloud totally caught me off feckin’ guard, man ! Fuck knows ! :ROFLMAO:

Y’know, cuz ah just thought: “Oh, I’ve made it onto yin o’ their playlists... Great !”
Totally flipped out when ah clicked on the playlist to find my metal riff idea was featured as the first track of the playlist.

If I knew it was gonnae trend at the top spot, I’d huv wrote the whole instrumental and uploaded it in full.
Since it only took me a whole 2 days to write it, and get the riff sounding how ah wanted it sound.
