I would like to read some of the Marquis de Sade's books to see if they're really all that shocking. After seeing 'Quills' (I love Jeoffrey Rush!) I am even more intrigued.

I looked up some of his writings after seeing that movie. It's pretty bad stuff I must say.

Oooh! Bad can be good. I pretty much know what the main themes are, but I'll won't say no to a good shock. Besides, what was bad back then must be nothing compared to what we have now. What do you say?

It depends on what exactly you read. I don't know if the few lines they had in the movie were really from any of his writings, but they did seem watered down compared with some stuff I read. Also, some of the stuff he writes about are actually based on things he did in real life, which adds to the shock of it.

Yes, I think you're right about the writing in the movie being watered down. They wanted to portray a romantic view of the Marquis when he was anything but romantic in real life. One thing that I respect about him was that through his writing, he exposed the hypocrisy and depravity of the clergy as well as the nobility - the elite. I don't think he ever apologized for being a sick bastard, but he did seem to have a sense of humor to say the least.

I don't know about real life, but he was funny in the movie. In a dark and twisted way :D

Currently about halfway through With Wings Like Eagles by Michael Korda. And it feels rather good to be reading about something as uplifting as the Battle of Britain after reading two books on how the Nazis tried to implement their "final solution of the Jewish question."

"Effortless Mastery" from Kenny werner. My piano teacher recommended me this book because my anxiety is obviously preventing me from improving and liberating the musician within me :)

None, but I was given about 10 for Christmas so I guess I'm going to have to start reading a few. "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" most probably will be my next one.

So I started Wuthering Heights the other day. Not really my usual thing because I'm into fantasy/urban-fantasy--but I'm gonna persevere! I decided it's time to culture myself up a bit :D
