Would you do this if we told you it could help you get rid of SA?

Woud you STOP COMPLETELY using the internet/Tv if we guarantee you a S.A free life?

My answer would be no because my SA isn't crippling. I can still go out and be among people and hopefully the anxieties I do have will be treated.

I have watched TV all my life, and the internet for at least 15 years, long before I had anxiety. These things have not contributed to my anxiety. In fact the internet has helped with some of the health concerns I have.

What don't you know? I know I'm stating facts. I need to look elsewhere to find answers for my anxiety. I can't honestly answer your poll because I know stopping using the internet would not end my anxiety

Your right I don't know you .... I can't judge you. As for me internet/tv has contributed to my social anxiety for now.

I don't think that has any effect on my anxiety... My choice would be no, unless you have something in your mind that you're planning to do if I stopped using internet and watching TV that would help cure my anxiety. If you think getting rid of them alone would help then that would be completely wrong. Either way, I don't spend too much time on them.

No, I wouldn't give the internet and TV up. Besides, considering how technologically advanced the world is these days, giving them up would be impractical.

The internet does contribute to a lot of my anxieties so without it, I'd probably spend less time feeling anxious. Yet, those anxieties are not caused by the internet, they're caused by my own mind and how it inteprets things. So taking the internet away wouldn't 'rid' me of anxiety, it would just brush it under the carpet without really solving it.
I'd rather just fight it properly; head on and without 'handicaps', so to speak.

I would say yes, as my condition is severely crippling. It would be a very small price to pay.

I think I read the question wrong. I thought it was more like an exchange, like if you could permanently give up the internet in exchange for instantaneous freedom from social anxiety. In that case, hell yes. But otherwise, no.

I hardly watch tv nowadays and I only use the internet because I'm incredibly bored during the day. If I could start developing a social life, I guess I wouldn't (or almost wouldn't) need internet/tv anymore.

Well, I think it's not necessary to give up internet and TV completely, just use in moderation...
More than 4 or 5 hours a day can cause depression, concentration/memory problems or other health problems... There has been a study...

So ideally everyone would use computers 4 hours a day max.

When I was at the uni, I didn't miss TV or computer at all... Now it helps with research and contact with people all over the world..
So yeah, it would just mean a different lifestyle...

I said yes because it's kind of like asking, "would you stop eating ice cream if it would help you get rid of SA?" I don't think tv or internet has anything to do with my SA, but I'd give up both in a heartbeat if it would magically make me able to socialize effortlessly.

If only it were that easy. But I understand what you mean by this, Marie.

*IF* it meant that I could function around other human beings and lead a fulfilling non handicapped life - where I could form friendships, relationships and do the things I wanted to do without panicking and feeling self conscious. If it meant I would feel happy and comfortable with myself...then yes... I would.

I always have the library.
