what's wrong with online dating?

I see nothing wrong with online dating, and I know that it does work.... I know of at least 3 people that have met their current partners on online dating sites. I have been on 3 dates because of eHarmony... Otherwise I would still be dateless in my 41 years walking this planet... I just wished that 1 of those 3 dates would have worked out... But it could have! I still belong to Plenty of Fish, but I have never met anyone off that site. But....it could happen!

Tell me, Mr. Anderson... what good is a phone call... if you're unable to speak?

That's really sweet, i'm glad it worked out for you guys!! ;)

Thanks i never thought id ever be in a long term relationship and i def didn't think id meet my future hubby online, been together nearly 7 years and married for nearly 2 so just goes to show it can work out:)

I've been on a dating site for a while now but have not had any luck.

I'm about to give up though, I have realized that I am not good enough for anybody. SA has crippled my life and now I'm just a pathetic loser.

Hey Mr. Deicide... Have you tried eHarmony? You should!!! I know it's expensive, but it honestly worked for me.... I mean if I can get 3 dates out of trying online dating for over 10 years... Dude, it will work for anyone. At least it will get your foot in the door with someone who's compatible.

Don't give up, DeathMetal - you are good enough. Sure, it's excruciatingly difficult for us, but defeatism isn't an option. In the shadows, there's always someone who will accept and love you for yourself.

Yeah.. eHarmony has rejected me twice now.

I wish I was as optimistic as you.

I dated someone online for a while. It ended with us never speaking to each other again and never getting a chance to meet. But I don't see anything wrong with online dating. Sometimes it really works out for people.

I've never used an online dating website, it may be something I consider once I'm a little more confident about myself. I imagine the male users significantly outnumber the female though.

That depends on what site it is. In most free dating sites, the gender-ratio is nearly perfectly balanced. When it come to expensive shit like Match.com, you're shown pictures of gorgeous women--and presented with the overwhelming number of women that's registered there. You're tricked into paying for the ability to contact them via messages and find out that no women are paying for a subscription, so they can't reply.

When it comes to online dating, I recommend web communities that are a little more "open" than Facebook, but still doesn't charge you for an expensive subscription.

I don't think there's anything wrong with it if the people actually meet each other & get to know each other in real life, too. The only problem I have is when people consider it a real relationship when they're never even planning on meeting the person. That's not a relationship & something like that will never last. Unless they meet, they never really know who they're dealing with.

^ This. Especially when they go on about how their in love. You can't love someone you've never met , sorry. ::eek::

I like online dating :) It's a good way of meeting people.
It increases your chance of love or a new friendship ;)

I have no problem with using online as another means of reaching out and meeting new people, it's opens up a lot of possibilities. I would talk to someone, meet up with them and see what develops, no different to any other way of meeting people. I have some online friends that I care about very much but I would never date someone "over" the internet that I would hardly ever see, I've done it once in the past and never again, it will drive you insane.

Yeah, I think it’s fine it may actually work the opposite, they may like you better in real life as appose to how you come across in text.

I was going to say, I'm surprised people with SA would be ok with online dating. It seems like the expectation levels would be enormous. Like if someone thinks you're interesting enough to meet in person, you have to live up to that? No thanks. ::eek::

Online dating is great if you want to meet more than just the outgoing party-girls who go to clubs every weekend (the ones that people with SA are incompatible with).

I don't think there is anything wrong with it. I just won't do it because I rather have someone to hold and be held :D

Yes I can meet someone online but I would have to meet in person before we actually date.

I had an online relationship once, we use to talk on the phone have webcam chats and we spoke everyday then 2 months later we met and it was amazing! we split up a few months later though as we drifted apart! but i think online relationships can blossom into beautiful things.

I agree with her :)

I wouldn't see why if you're both on the same page about your feelings and want it to work, it couldn't. It takes a lot of time and dedication but it could be well worth it and I think there are a couple people on the forum who can testify to that.

I had an online relationship once too. I really liked it and it was great... until her personality suddenly changed for no reason and she later told me that she was seeing another guy in rl. It's awful and hard to understand because I would never do something like that to someone I love, but I still think online relationships can be a great thing if you're serious about it and safe of course. The proof, I know a girl who met a guy online and they're gonna get married soon o_0
