Since last week in work i a supermarket as a counterdesk/kassa worker, and today i got one rude costumer, and she was constantly correcting me (she works in the same supermarket on another location). I stayed calm and frienly and when she was gone i was complimented by the next costumer how i well i handled the situation ^_^. A co-worker was also like ''wow, she was rude,,. So it's hard to stay calm but i'm working on it and so far i can control myself:)

I absolutely relate to this from when i worked retail.

See, this is what I don't get. Most people have worked in retail or food service at some point. That's where a lot of people get their first jobs. You would think they would know what it's like and they'd have some respect. But they don't. Maybe it's just their revenge for all the crap they put up with in the past. People suck sometimes.

well not only that,

if you think about it, ALOT of society depends on retail jobs. Can you imagine what it would be like if suddenly malls, electronics stores, gas stations, grocery stores, ect all shut down or went on strike for a month?.

it would NOT be pretty.

I never forget what i went through and i swore to myself id never do that to another retail employee. Theyre people too.

It makes me sad how alot of "customers" dont seem to see retail associates as human beings too when theyre mad or frustrated.

I ran into some rude customers when I worked retail. But more than that it was rude, disrespectful bosses. I ran into too many good, and nice customers too, to remember the bad ones.

I have found that the best way to know someone is how they treat strangers in those retail positions. Like if you ever go on a date and they treat the waiter or waitress poorly, run very fast because its only a matter of time that they will end up treating you like that.

Honestly, I rather liked working retail. I found it was some of the most times I've ever been flirted with in my life. Probably since there's a pretext for talking, it made both parties more approachable to each other.

I've never worked in food service, and I never want to because of all the rude people. I like to say what's on my mind, so I might not be able to hold everything back. People are such wads alot of the time...
I have thought about retail, like at a clothing store as the person who puts stuff where it's supposed to go, because I wouldn't want to deal with checking people out and being in a hurry. Putting things away has much less contact with people's bad attitudes, hopefully.
But I don't want to do retail because it's still too much people junk.

I found myself unable to speak to the vast majority of people who came in during my short time working as a cashier and customers would scream at me, making it much worse until a manager or another worker would intervene. I was moved to window, filling up drinks and handing food out to cars, but the managers and my coworkers would get very hostile and I would sometimes freeze up from the feeling of being surrounded by hostiles that I couldn't get away from. Its a bloody nightmare working fast food and you meet some of the worst people on this rock there.

I can totally relate to you on this. I work for a casino and rude customers are a lot of what I deal with especially since I work many overnight shifts. It's crazy I've never seen so many people in such a rush to lose their money. I've been threatened to be killed, shot, stabbed, beat up, people come after me and anything you could imagine while being at work. All by other people who I am doing nothing but trying to help. It's also crazy because if you saw me at work with someone in my face and I'm screaming back at them you'd never guess I had SA. I've learned to treat people the way they treat me while I'm at work. I know that's not the best approach, but when you're asking someone to do something and they refuse to listen there isn't much else you can do. Unfortunately there isn't much you can do about this in a customer service related job other then to find ways to deal with it. It's going to happen no matter what.

I'm pretty sure that most nasty people are really insecure cowards at the deepest level. Everyone gets bad days and have misunderstandings... I'm talking about people who genuinely are rude consistently. Kindness comes from strength. Cruelty, from weakness.

I live by this rule. Being rude makes a person highly unattractive.

I work for a big name health food chain so I have to deal with a lot of yuppie folk on a regular basis. If it weren't for the money and the knowledge I'd be gone long ago. You'd think the healthier people are the happier they'd become but I quickly learned that health nuts are some of the snottiest customers out there. Recently I had a customer get his panties in a bunch because I wasn't "100% positive" our fresh chickens were fed a gluten free feed. I completely understand diet restrictions but holy moly can people be unreasonable. I offered to call the company to find out for him but he felt it better to insult me then to spend an extra few minutes to get his problem solved. I swear everyday I feel like telling someone to just eat a freaking hamburger and get over themselves. And don't even get me started on the vitamin junkies....

and people don't even realize that they absorb little of the vitamins/minerals that they take in the supplements. one of my mom's friends recently ate dinner with us and brought a packet of about 6 pills, and she said she takes them everyday. i think it's all in their head that they benefit from them. waste of money in my opinion.

earlyier this year i volunteered at a charity shop, was always working the music area upstairs on my own, often got rude people come in, most of the time il'd tell them to either be polite or leave the shop but this one time i was serving a customer, there was like 3/4 people in the que at the same as talking to my sister who was waiting for my break to go have lunch, when some lady barged infront of my sister and starts demanding i show her the guitar we had in a cabinet, at first i asked her to wait as i was busy but she started insulting me and i just went mad, full blown had a go at her and told her she was banned from the shop and to leave right away. well that made things worse she was shouting louder than i was untill i slammed on the counter and said quietly but u could prob tell i was very angry that if she didnt leave in the next 30 seconds i would drag her out the shop and throw her into the street....certainly got rid of her but kinda scared everyone which got my fired lol

i can't believe you went all out like you did, and i'm quite glad that you did. i wish people would realize that acting like butts is no way to properly get what they want.

I'm going to live vicariously through you. Really wish I could go balls out crazy on some folk but unfortunately I can't afford to lose a job.

See, why does this lady have to do that? She thinks she's so precious that she couldn't wait in line and she deserved to be served first? Good on you for doing that. Seriously. Rude customers are so terrible! :veryangry:

I've worked at McDonalds for 3 years. At a hotel for a summer. American Eagle for a year. Abercrombie for 6 months. I currently work at Cabelas and Subway. I've worked retail and food service jobs most of high school to now (about 5 years).

Ironically, though, no one has ever taken personal shots at me or freaked out on me. Just a lot of people who "forget" to say please/thank you or acknowledge that you exist when ordering food.

However, a customer who is directly mad at me for a mistake gets one of two reactions:

1. I had nothing to do with the mistake, it's not my fault so stop being mad at me.

2. My mistake, mistakes happen. Sorry.

After working all of these jobs I have developed a, "you have mistaken me for someone who cares" attitude. But at the same time I will be extremely nice and bend over backwards for a nice and understanding person.

I don't let people effect me, especially customers.

Besides, if you have a situation like the the lady that had to write two checks (mentioned above)...I just look at like, "damn what a bitch, I'm glad I inconvinced her" lol..
