Had today my first birthday party for a decade or so. At first it seemed to be just some friends sitting together at another friends place. Then, because of the good weather, we moved it to yet another friend, who got a large patio, and met there.
At first, I was a bit... hmm... not too positive. Suddenly there were five or so additional people, of whom I didn't know they'd attend as well. Some of them I never saw before, and, to be frank, one of them I had a slight dislike to.
Well, I got some presents too. Since my feet get cold quickly, I got two pairs of superfluffy socks and slippers. Also I got a cookbook (japanese cooking, I like to cook), two pots with flowers for a window sill in my new flat that was still free, and a board game (a strategy game, where the winner of one match can basically create or modify stuff for the game played next, making the game evolve over time).
Since some of my friends and I are quite the geeks, it wasn't meant as a party, but as a board game evening. First, we played some funny card game, that didn't take too long, to warm up. Then we played a board game I bought yesterday at the Spiel (one of the worlds largets card and board game fairs). It's also a strategy game, a very funny where, people try to conquer a fantasy world with armies that are randomly combined of two parts (like, my first army were a bunch of "marauding"-"shroomies", later I got "vampiric"-"will-o-wisps" and in the end "mystic"-"barbarians", all with special rules and stuff. That was funny. The not so geeky people were scared off, so we played it with 6 of 10 people (another arrived). I didn't mind that.
After that it got kinda dark, so the hard geeky core of 5 people went to the flat of one of our small group, to make pizza and play some more games. So we made pizza, and then played "Ascension". That was fun as well, and lasted until 3 AM.
So, all in all a nice day. Good games, good presents.
