Me when I was signing my first published novel.

Note: don't judge a book by its cover; I'm an ex muslim but I still live in my home country.

No one here judges anyone by race, creed or religion. If they do they have the manners not to comment. :)

Good to see you

Omg I think I've just said something stupid haha.>.<

I think I need to explain something. What I meant by 'cover' was my hijab and abaya (my black gown). Anyone who would see that pic would think I was muslim. What I was trying to say is that I'm not muslim even if I dress like a Muslim.

I. Didn't mean to offend anyone here. :)

Congrats on the publishing the novel! I'm just a bit curious, why did you leave your religion? You don't have to answer if you don't want too.

About 6 years ago I started doubting the importance of what muslim women wear (in my hometown women cover their faces) Over time doubts got bigger and deeper. My struggle with doubts lasted for two years. In 2011 I managed to convince myself that I couldnt call myself a muslim any longer.

It happened gradually. For example when my doubts started I believed that Muslims don't interpret the Quran correctly. Later I believed that some parts of the Quran were corrupted and Muslims shouldn't follow every single verse in it. Later I believed that the Quran was meant for only the early Muslims. At the end I believed that I was just looking for justifications to stay a muslim. So I decided to leave islam altogether.

I used to be a very religious girl by the way. I'm atheist now.

Isn't that a bit dangerous in your country? I mean we hear of stonings and beheadings. Is it more liberal where you are?

It is dangerous. Yes. I don't think my people would stone or behead me. They may simply shot me in the head hehe. So yeah I'm a bit scared. I dont think the government would do something like that though...

I haven't revealed my new real identity to my family. When it gets too dangerous for me to stay I will have to move somewhere else. I used to write about my beliefs under a pseudonym and some people found out my real identity. I'm denying what they are saying about me. I want to leave my hometown so bad but I also want to stay close to my family as long as possible...

The 'rumors' reached my workplace and someone tried to hit me. i acted as if they are wrong and pretended to be religious and stuff haha. I guess what helps me survive is that I'm nice and well mannered etc etc lol I have a good reputation regardless of the rumours about my beliefs.

I can't wait to leave my hometown. It's not like I hate my people, but i can't pretend to be their nice Muslim girl forever.
