i hate the ''right side'' of my face

Hello SPW'ers.

So I've been struggling with this since a very long time, when I look into the mirror, I feel disgusted. Especially when I look at the right side of my face, my nose looks weird, and my face just looks ewfull.
People tell me ''Just don't look at it'' , or ''Ignore it'' but it's impossible.
I sure have good moments, but everytime when I look in the mirror I'm stuck with it. I'm seriously thinking about cosmetic surgery. But nobody knows about that. I like the left side of my face more, but still my face looks so odd, weird and I feel such a pain in my back to live like this.
I always make pic's of my left side of my face or forward.
But when I see pictures of my right side, i feel awfull.
When I look in the mirror.. I feel destroyed.

Well, you're like a very famous singer in our country then... She always requires how to be photographed etc too...

I don't like how my face looks from the side either.. At least you like one side!!
I'm not thinking about surgery cause I guess bone structure can't be changed (or with difficulty) and it's not healthy to cut and such unless absolutely necessarily...
Any operations or such can mess with your body-system (especially if not done well)... And you don't want to end up like Michael Jackson or Cher, do you??

You're an attractive young girl, and most people probably don't even notice you...
Also, I recommend looking at pictures and/or videos of famous people or great musicians/singers.... I saw Elvis the other day on YouTube - and guess what, he doesn't look that good from the side either!! Ha!!

I'm sure there's very few people in the world that have perfectly symmetrical faces. I was reading a magazine where they took one side of a famous person's face and made a mirror of it so their face was perfectly symmetrical and they looked pretty funny lol. So I think having one side of your face slightly different is a normal thing.

Wow join the club. I have a mole on the right side of my face which I was bullied for for many years. Therefore I now am very uncomfortable about it which I tihnk has actually limited me socially.
I feel your pain although I am sure there is not a thing wrong with the right side of your face! Where I feel there is with mine....
However I plan to have surgery soon :D

This sounds a bit like body dysmorphia. It may be that it is a problem in symmetry only you are seeing. The mirror also flips what you see, it is not what other people see as you. Head on photos are more accurate.

I think you have a very pretty face.

Flowergirlie, I sometimes feel like this too.. But try to remember that it is your mind, try to remember that you are seeing things through a distorted perception. I hope you don't get cosmetic surgery because you are absolutely gorgeous!! I say this an awful lot on this forum, but I'll say it again because it's the only thing that has helped me with my BDD. Try to see your body as something that adapted to your native environment... Our bodies are perfectly designed to fit into our native homes.. Every one of your features is an advantage in a natural area. For instance, dark skinned people are designed to filter out extra UV rays so they can withstand sunnier/hotter areas... If you have a bony facial structure or body structure it's to increase the surface area of so that you can expel heat while in hotter places, or while exercising (Ever wonder why dark skinned, long boned kenyans are such damn good runners?). If you have a flatter face it's to reduce surface area to keep you warm in cold places.. Everything that is you is you for a much greater reason. The point is, we were designed perfectly for and by our original "homes", we are beautiful products of nature. I think that's a beautiful thing that we should all appreciate

EDIT : OK .. I WAS REALLY IN A BAD MOOD.. I WILL NEVER TRY COSMETIC SURGERY.. I SOMETIMES SAY THOSE THINGS WHEN I'M REALLY DOWN..
BUT THAT'S JUST BECAUSE I FEEL REALLY SAD THEN... NOW IM FEELING BETTER AND STILL I DONT FEEL ACCEPTED BY MYSELF BUT I CAN IGNORE IT
BECAUSE I FEEL HAPPY. I DO HAVE GOOD MOMENTS.. SO JUST WANTED TO SAY THIS... :) SORRY FOR THE VENT.. SOMETIMES IM JUST PLACING MYSELF
INTO A VERY NEGATIVE ATMOSPHERE... SO THEN I START WRITING SUCH ****, BUT IT JUST DEPENDS ON HOW I FEEL :)
SOMETIMES I'M JUST REALLY DEPRESSED.

Sorry for the caps lock, just wanted to make this sure
It's like when I'm having a panic attack, sometimes I say weird things, because I feel so bad.

@Escape Artist: You have a very inspiring original way of describing the nice features of a creature of looks.. You're right. everyone has good features, even the most ugly person in the world do have a beauty.
And I like the sentence ''Personality inside, is what beauty creates''.

@Pookah; Yeah I think I might have BDD, But I'm not sure. But i can very much relate to the symptoms.

@JosephG: Thanks although i prefer to join the self acceptance club, or positive happy living people club.. any one else wanna join? ;)

@Luke1993: Yeah lots of people have symmetrical faces, I even have symmetrical ears.. xD, But most people don't even look at this so accurate like me, The only one who will ever mention will be yourself.. But still I think the whole world see's my negative aspects of my body and face.. But maybe it's just me ... looking with those big eyes staring at my self.
(reminds me of SA??!)

@Feathers: Yeah I've heard lots of singers/modelists/actors one want to photograph one side of the face, Like ''Enrique Iglesias'' He only wants to photograph his right side of his face... :-/

And your right about surgery.. Argh it's never guaranteed what the outcome will be.. I don't wanna end up like a barbiedoll.. No ur right :)
I was just feeling very depressed.. :-/

Thnx you all!! <3

Hello Flowerly,

Lol i know how do you feel. Let me tell you one thing every person on the wolrd have one side of face better looking as this other one. This was proved by doctors and exist some place where are people what have both sides totally the same and you know what? They actuallly would look much better if will be not like that. They are unhappy coz if should both sides of face the same u dont look actually perfect this look unnatural. I dont know if u get it what im trying to say. Everyone have one side worse. Im not sure wich one it is. Is only detail but no one have it both sides same. If u have BDD plastic surgery will make it only worse. Because if will be not enough good to you u start finding other and other parts of your face or body what u dislike. U will start be obssesed with that. I alone dont like how i look and if i can i would change whole face. I propably have BDD also or just severe low-esteem. If im really down like u was i start thinking no sense stuff and mirrors i hate to look and im obssesive unpleasant about my self. I know u EDIT your feelings. I wanna only tell u are beuatiful and u see your self diffrent as we do. I dont say this to cheer u up believe me! Take care flowerly

your really pretty, i know you will probably read that and not believe it but you are.
Not only that but even MORE importantly flowergirly? you have a sweet and kind personality and that goes a long way.
Never stop being sweet and kind, no matter how you think you look because to some people (like me) that means a whole lot more to be a nice person anyways .

There's a reason why celebrities do this. People in show business are taught how to make themselves appear photogenic by posing at certain angles (best angle). I have seen very few celebrities that look great from any angle.

And your right about surgery.. Argh it's never guaranteed what the outcome will be.. I don't wanna end up like a barbiedoll.. No ur right :)

This is not to say that I think you need cosmetic surgery because I don't. I just wanted to point out that if one hires the services of a skilled, reputable cosmetic surgeon and is willing to fork out quite a large sum of money, the results are guaranteed to be good. I could name quite a few celebrities that have had impeccable work done to them. Meh, I'm the only person I know who is a cosmetic surgery enthusiast. Still, I don't see anything about you that needs altering.

Believe it or not FG, I've watched your youtube videos, and all I saw was an insecure, pretty girl with bucket loads of talent.

And as DespairSoul mentioned in the posts above, when you get cosmetic surgery to fix one perceived imperfection, it creates an obsession toward fixing other perceived imperfections.

If anything, it could be make you more insecure. Regardless, it's something I think you should not even be considering.

I hope I don't across as "talking down to you," as I'm sure you're acutely aware of this, but I thought it needed to be repeated as an affirmation of some sort.

Not only do we perceive attractive people as likeable; we also perceive likeable people as attractive.

It works on both ends, but you just happen to have both extremely attractive and likeable. :)

The only thing you need is support and a kick square in the butt. ;)

Judging from your pictures you look beautiful. If you use plastic surgery to correct minor mistakes only you see, then you risk ending up like Michael Jackson or Pete Burns. You should focus on overcoming your BDD. :)

Thanks 2 all =). I won't ever do surgery, I was just frustrated, But I always told myself, and will promise myself, I won't ever do that. Because then my life is screwed if I will end up like that. >:O, So, I will just try to ignore my bad feelings about it, because maybe It's all just a lie. It's just that I don't feel confident, but maybe It's not neccesary to be confident, to look pretty. :)

Wait?
You complain about not having confidence and feeling ugly and yet you use an actual user picture and have a You Tube channel featuring yourself?
You seem like you are confident and perfectly comfortable in your appearance.

I've seen tons of people with SA make videos to challenge their fears. Maybe it's that way with her. :) Who knows.

Hey FG!
Glad to hear you're not serious about the face! (surgery)
You are totally good looking (and wow it's so frustrating to hear someone be negative about their physical awesomeness ::(: - I know, as I used to do that all the time until my then-girlfriend got sick of telling me I was beyond good-looking ), and try to remember that in your low moments!
I know it's hard in today's society for a woman to NOT be self-conscious about physical appearance, but once you accept it, everything goes a bit more smoothly.
Take Shannon Dougherty for instance: her right eye (left?) is 1-2cm lower than her other eye, but it didn't stop her from TV, movies and magazine covers everywhere! (Google her name & you'll see what I mean)
Trust me - when I first saw your Youtube page I almost dropped my coffee-mug :D

I can relate to this post and I want to comment but I hope that I don't end up being a buzzkill. and I know that me venting my frustrations doesn't make anyone look at themselves this way, or try and pin point every little thing, I just have to get it out that I can relate. Also, I don't mean to "hijack" your thread. The "hate the right side of my face" thing is just something I've been personally dealing with for years so I just want to share my story too.

My face is definitely asymmetrical. It is not even, at all. It is not something I only perceive, it's something that's real. It's like one side of my face is one way, and then the other side is shifted down a little bit. My eyes, cheek, ear, mouth when I smile... it's like something took their hands on my face and pushed one up and the other one down. I can't decide which side I like better. If I were to get surgery to HOPEFULLY straighten everything out, which side I would rather be. They are both so different, it's really too hard to decide.

Not only that, but my head isn't straight up from my neck. It's to the right. So it looks like I am doing that Egyptian thing with my head, all the time. I don't even know how people in public stand to look at me.

What's really weird, is sometimes I can look in the mirror and see something close to normal. The unevenness is still there, but sometimes it doesn't look too bad and I think, I look okay today. But when I take a picture, it's 10 times worse than anything I see in the mirror. I look like a completely different person. I look like a monster. I hate pictures.

I am not sure why they look different. It's like I have BDD the opposite way and I think I look better than I actually am.

I just watched your YT videos, you have an amazing gorgeous voice btw!!, and there is NOTHING wrong with the right side of your face at all. I can safely say it's just you who sees it this way :) I think you've got the most striking eyes and you look like a model. I'm not lying. I'm totally jealous.
I hope that one of these days you will embrace yourself and see what a wonderful person you are inside and out :D
