Do you wish you were famous?

Do SA sufferers, deep down, wish they were famous?

This probably links to SA sufferers wanting to be accepted, liked and appreciated but for me as a kid, I've always wanted to BE somebody.

At a young age, I had dreams of being a footballer (soccer player) but realised, sadly that I was rubbish; of being an actor as I excelled in Drama lessons at school and I loved playing a character who was not me; and my current goal is to be a journalist. Not that I want to be famous as a journalist for self-interest reasons but for people to talk about my work and encouraging debate.

So, has anyone else wanted to be famous and if so what?

I used to want to be an actress or singer when I was about 12. I thought if I became a celebrity I would prove all my classmates wrong about me - I'd show them that I could be better than I was. Not that I was a loser in school, but I didn't have many friends. People were nice to me but they could sense my awkwardness and in turn felt awkward.

Now that I'm about a decade older, I honestly don't know if I'd want that. Yeah, tons of money is great, and recognition, but... think about the scrutiny celebrities face. If you were curious one day and Googled your name, you would see some pretty nasty things said about you all over the Internet. You'd have to have one hell of a thick skin, and obviously most of us on this site lack that.

To be honest, I think that if I became a celebrity, at first it would be thrilling, but after a while the criticism would get to me. I'd constantly be paranoid about what people were saying about me. Either that, or I'd toughen up, but somehow I think it would just aggravate the neurotic side of me.

Yes! For me, acceptance was much wanted as a child. I always figured that I could achieve it by helping other people.. being wanted, needed.

If I were known for making a big contribution to society, I wouldn't mind fame at all. Even with SA I'm sure I'd grow use to it, and enjoy it- pros and cons that come with it.

Fame for me ranges from scientist, to doctor, to journalist traveling around the world.

No! I sometimes have fantasies about being a singer (in a more obscure band or stage production), but I wouldn't want to be widely known. I couldn't face the scrutiny and I wouldn't want people looking at me or coming up to me...

Nope. I would get excessive amounts of criticism and my SA would inflate until it skyrocketed into outer space.

Well i've always longed for some kind of recognition and prove all my ex classmates, teachers etc. wrong like 'hahaaa look at me now, who's the loser now??'
I would never want to be famous in the way like let's say Kim Kardashion (i'm not a Kim K hater but she's the definition of a person that is famous for being famous). I would like to be known for innovativiness and talent, famous like the kind of way like for example Kate Bush. She's very well known and respected but paparazzis leave her alone and she's able to keep her private life for herself. That would be the ideal :)
But as Opaline said fame requires thick skin and that's the last thing I have lol. When having a bad day I would feel awful if I got lots of stares when walking down the street and you can't go out having a good time without rumours being spread.

Famous? No, that was never really soethng that I wanted to be. However, I did want to be a professional jazz musician. Note that I wanted to do this because I loved playing and writing music--not because of the fact that it gets you known to the public. Also, jazz musicians rarely get famous, but you can make enough to live anyways.

I used to, but now I don't. I don't have the looks, the charisma, the people skills, the smarts, and the thick skin to go with the fame. I'm happy the way I am, not famous and relatively obscure.

I guess I should have put in my own post that not a famous at the ridiculous levels for Kardashian etc but on a middle-scale, where you are famous but not that widely recognised. Journalists who are prominent writers have some level of fame - whether they like it or not - and I wouldn't mind that. Seeing people who come to you to praise your work, or request advice, I'd be comfortable with that.

The only reason I'd want to be famous is if it meant I had a great natural talent for the arts - making music, or painting.

But many famous people don't have any talent, apart from the talent to get themselves into the eye of the media by doing something far-fetched, crazy or downright stupid.

Not famous no.
But I do wish I was a part of the Royal Family.
Never have to worry about job interviews or getting jobs etc.
You would have a guaranteed job of world tours, opening places, walking around people who want to see you, dressing up nice and going to free dinners all over the world.
A few boring speeches to sit through but hey, it would be worth never having to worry about getting someone to employ you, as your automatic job is for life.
