anyone rich and still lonley?

If money was the cure all for everything, then why is Britney Spears so messed up? Why is Paris Hilton, Nicole Richie etc... The list is endless... Movie stars that are rich, are more messed up than we are... It's obvious that money does not buy happiness. Materialistic things do not buy happiness either.. I had to learn that lesson on my own. For me, the only thing that matters most in my life, is the fine people that I surround myself with. It's the people, the relationships, the friendships that matter most. There are music stars that kill themselves, do drugs, are more messed up than most average people... Money helps, and to have enough to get a home, buy food clothing and pay for entertainment and to be able to stash some away for retirement, is all that I need....

I honestly do not envy the rich. I have some wealthy family members and I see what it does to them and how its changed them. Someone who gets rich, may be happy for a month of two, but just like everything else, you adapt to that new life. After that month or 2, you have to find something else bigger and better to get any happiness and it's extremely hard when you have tons of money and possessions already. It's more of a curse than anything. We aren't suppose to actually get rich, just desire it.

It wouldn't solve my loneliness, only a companion would. But it would buy me happiness because then I could go on vacation or at least go to the movies without worrying about going bankrupt.Well, it would buy me happiness to an extent, because I'd still be lonely, and I'm not shallow enough to by my friends.

it would help me a lot! i don't care if the girls look for me 4 money, what i really have been wishin (if i can be rich someday) is a wife who wants to travel with me around the world and after that have a lot of kids and raise them in a mansion and do crazy stuff like partyin' in my yacht with lots of friends and get drunk oohh... great!

Yes money solves so many problems. And I am with Serafina; I hate rich people who act like they are unaffected by money. It's insulting.

If I were rich I wouldn't be considered a loser for not working, which would solve many of my insecurities about the way people view me. Your social status is heavily dependent on money! Being wealthy and unemployed = great. Being poor and unemployed = scum of the earth.

Sure I would still be painfully shy but at least I could have peace of mind. I could afford:

* my own residence (aka PRIDE)
* health insurance
* to finish college
* nice clothes to make me feel better about my appearance
* a car that doesn't stall at every stoplight
* good food to cook at home
* eating out
* visiting museums and interesting places
* sharing all of this with friends and family

When I have no money I turn into a recluse because I can't afford to leave the house. I can't afford to risk having my car die on me and not having enough money to tow my car home. People invite me to go places with them but I don't respond to them because I don't want to say I can't afford it. They think I'm dissing them but I'm not. Having no money turns you into a recluse.

Having money would allow for cool experiences so you actually would have something to talk about. When people ask what I do I would be able to say more than, "I am unemployed.". And when people ask what I did over the weekend I could say more than, "Oh, nothing." When people ask where I live I wouldn't have to say, "At home." I don't want to hang out with friends or be in environments where I will meet new people because I don't want to go through the humility of having to admit these things to others. All of this is conversation killer and socially repelling.

Money would change all of that. Like I said, I would still be shy but it would give me so much peace of mind and a huge self esteem boost knowing people aren't going to immediately write me off.

the obvious benefit of being rich is the security, imagine if you owned a home at a young age and had paid it off, you'd breathe one huge sigh of relief knowing you had a space like that. you could also travel alot. check out the latest gadgets. it opends doors to material wants and status, but it isn't at the essence of happiness which is a sense of humour and connecting with people. but lets not deny that it would be a nice bonus to expand on life.

This. People don't realize how important money is (it's sad, but true). It may not "buy" happiness, but it buys the means to happiness (which are impossible while poor. Yay loophole)

I would still be lonely although I could have so many things to fill up my day, I would still feel lonely at night. Someone once asked me what I would do if I won the lottery and I said eccentric reculse, which I pretty much am already.

I think I would get paranoid about losing my money too as I wouldn't want to go back to how I was, I don't have a job now as I feel I can't face being around people. Yeah and you could never tell if someone wants to be your friend for you or the money.

I would probably have to get a house close to my parents so they could help me out if needed, I'm not even sure if I would learn to drive or not.

I'd make sure my familys house debts are paid and do it up, get my dad a brand new car as he's never had one before and probably have to pay for my brother and his girlfriend to get a house/flat and get him a car.

I highly doubt I would become a social butterfly and want to tour the world, I'd stay the same probably but with worse mental health, but knowing I won't have to work would be a relief.

I'm not poor but I'm not rich either. I can afford to buy one or two things I really want each month (ignoring smaller stuff like CD/DVDs.) I suppose these material things can buy you a bit of VERY short term happiness, but the novelty of these purchases wears off pretty quickly and you end up the same as you were without them.

The tremendous burden of having to work would not be there anymore, which would benefit someone like me who has chronic depression and social anxiety. I could then concentrate on other aspects in life, such as making friends, hobbies, classes etc. I would also have more money to do things, so it definitely wouldn't hurt

But making a lot of money isn't going to get you a girl, at least not a girl who really cares about you. If I were rich I would say I am poor so I could meet only the right girls.
