Does anyone else find this whole "brony" (my little pony) thing, weird?

I also wasn't aware of any of this stuff. I didn't even know there was a new version of my little pony.

People should at least try to be a little bit cool. Why a man would go round telling everyone about it is strange. Buying kids toys, even weirder.

When I was in my early 20's, I watched a bit of Johnny Bravo, but I didn't go round telling everyone....
....well not until now.

The fact that an adult would call themselves a "Brony" in the first place is weird to me. Why not just watch it?

^ But that's the case with any self-given community tittle. It's easier to say ''I'm a brony'' rather then ''I enjoyed watching a particular My Little Pony cartoon, namely the lastest instalment for x and y reasons.''.

Having a specified term for a specified appeal saves a lot of time. I guess. It both means the same thing.

personally i don't like MLP, watched it when i was kid got scared of it and haven't watched it since lol.
never heard the phrase/title "brony" before tho, sounds no different to something given to someone who is a fan of something else.

im nearly 22 and love Pokemon, i own a fair bit of merchandise, mainly the trading cards and stickers...ive been told im weird for it but ive been watching/playing it since i was 6 so to me its not weird.

Always wondered what that pony crap was about.

I still don't get it.

I stopped watching cartoons ages ago. I don't blame people who enjoy it tho. As I myself enjoy anime.

I think it's kinda a trend, they only enjoy it so much because so many other "bronies" watch it to.

Actually, I started watching it because someone introduced me to it, I liked it and just kept watching. It was my own choice, my own preference.

I personally hate it and can't wait till it's gone, I think it's weird. Having an interest in horses is great, but for anyone to be so infatuated by animated unicorns (male or female) above the age of about 5 is sort of weird.

Weird doesn't mean you shouldn't do it...it just isn't something you would openly reveal to a person you've just met or something.

You can always watch the recently japanese-dubbed episodes of MLP... I heard one of the voice actress is Sawashiro Miyuki :inlove:

Being gay was something to cower and reside in shame for at some point in time. I'm not saying it's the same in any way, I'm just saying people have a tendency to ask people to hide things that they themselves are uncomfortable with in others.

It's not about liking or not liking the show, it's not for everyone. It's about allowing people to express their appreciation without the heavy handed prosecution/judgement that without intent dubs it as some sort of sickness or extreme abnormality. Which hasn't been said in this thread, but has been elsewhere plenty times over.

As more and more people, not even associated with the fan community in any way shape or form, belittle and compromise that what they don't understand, people that are part of the community are slowly but surely pushed into a tiny little corner where they're allowed to express themselves.

And sure, there's more to a person then just that one fandom/interest. I for one am fanatic about everything I like; Portal, The Legend of Zelda, Legend of Korra, Game of Thrones, to name a few. But nobody gives me fuzz about that because it's socially accepted.

And that really irks me when it happens. There's big accepted communities that revolve around virtual people shooting/murdering other virtual people cold dead. Some more gruesome than others. This is socially accepted. I don't see why something harmless in nature (harmless in subject matter as well as behaviour that spawns from it) shouldn't be. It's absolutely ridicules. It's prejudges to claim that one piece of fiction is somehow weirder to like then another.

Perhaps the reason people are uncomfortable with it is because they themselves aren't developed enough (no offence, it's not meant to be a shot of any sort) to live and let live.

I don't think it would be such a big deal if it was a show aimed at adults, instead of a traditionally kiddy targeted show. I think that's where people have a problem with it.

I'm a big believer in letting everyone do anything they want, so long as it doesn't affect others. I just think it's odd that so many adults/late teens enjoying watching a show aimed at kids. (Then again, I suppose plenty of adults enjoy The Simpsons and other such shows)

It has been said several times in this thread that the show is aimed not only at kids but also their parents.

It has small bits thrown in to keep the parent somewhat entertained while they watch it with their kids, I'm sure the creators never meant for it to be watched by the parents when the kids weren't there.

Pretty much every kids show does that to some extent.
