I'm dreading the holidays because __ (fill in the blank!)

I wouldn't say dread but certainly I'm not enthusiastic about it.

There are the family meetings which are really boring because I don't have anything in common with nearly any of my relatives. Or my parents are the ones who invite relatives to come over for lunch or dinner, and my mom gets all cranky because she wants everything to be perfect for the occasion. But in the holidays themselves is rare that we go somewhere or someone comes, and my family does little to nothing to celebrate.

Beyond the religious reasons, I still think is nice to have a time of the year to get together and have fun with the people you care about. Before I didn't care, but I guess that this year that I do have now people who I care about besides my family, I may feel lonely on those dates.

Aside from stressing about money for Christmas, I'm oddly looking forward to it. I've always loved this time of year, just not sure why. I guess I like the good smells, food, music (CERTAIN music), spending time with loved ones and all that cute crap. Although, I absolutely dread spending time with extended family. We have nothing in common and it's just awkward. My aunt and uncle want us to come over for Thanksgiving and I honestly don't want to go. I can't stand my aunt (by marriage). Ugh.

I'm dreading the holidays because all my friends are going to be out partying and having fun while I'm going to be stuck here at home with nothing to do and no one to celebrate with.

The most hateful thing of holydays is that when they finish everyone asks each other what they did, and since I always stay with my family or alone, I never know what to say.
Fortunately, I got diploma this summer and now I don't see my school "friends" anymore, so I don't have to worry.
But hey, it was really a pain in the ass each time...

People are annoying enough during the regular part of the year, but during the holidays they really turn it up a notch. They are insufferable. I dread relatives and "friends" of the family. Those of you who are alone are lucky.

I am dreading the holidays because it is a very lonely time.

I do enjoy all the Christmas decorations...Today I browsed the Christmas section at Target. Everything looks so beautiful. I hope we get to put up a tree this year. We didn't last year and it totally sucked :(

i hate holidays , it just means crowded places , loud people , maybe receiving a gift and be stared at by a bunch of people , a true nightmare !

i usually spend christmas all by myself these days , i don't mind really , it's just a day like the others , 'cept the atmosphere is cooler , i love the snow and the glowing lights , all the decorations and the music , i usually watch christmas movies while i eat some good food , that's good enough for me

I am dreading the holidays because it is a very lonely time for me.
I'm sorry to hear that. You would be welcome to stay at our place for sure.

This year, I was thinking of doing something different, and spending Christmas and New Year's Eve with my boyfriend and his family. For some reason that makes me feel guilty though.
Why would you feel guilty? You should totally do that!

You know, I don't hate the holidays. I hate what the holidays have become in this day and age. Ridiculous christmas songs by mariah carey played in your face wherever you go, having to work insane retail hours, being expected to spend money i don't have, flashing rudolph lights in all the stores...

when did this society become so materialistic?

Sometimes I dream of leaving everything behind and going to go live in a bungalow in the north, rip up the social security card, cut the credit cards...live off the land..

I hate it when the person who is expected to cook everything gets all cranky. Thanksgiving should be everyone helping out and not worrying about it being perfect.

And I don't have anything in common with the relatives I must see every holiday. overly privileged kids who hate me/think I'm weird.

It's tradition. Seeing the extended family is something I was raised to dread. Just last night all were joking about leaving early "oh 4 sounds good to leave!" "yeah, we can take our dessert in to-go boxes!" My dad isn't a big fan of people ::p:

:) Yeah, I wouldn't mind visiting others. That would be pretty cool too!

I guess 'cause I should be with my family? It is pretty silly to feel that way though. I would be spending the whole time away, a couple weeks at least. My bf lives about 600 miles away. Seems kinda cruel to not let my family see me during this very special time, lol ::p:
