Why is it hard for me to be funny?

I mean every time I try to joke around with people, they'd stare at me like I'm weird or something. I try not too hard to be funny and I'm a serious person at times, but it's like i can't make anyone laugh. Someone did tell me I have a very dry sense of humor. What does that mean exactly. Does my sense of humor suck? Does anyone else find it hard to be funny?

You're like me. When you have a "dry sense of humor", that means you tell a joke without really expressing that it's a joke. The joke is "hidden". You sound serious when you say it, so people take it seriously. If you're saying joke material in a serious manner, people will get confused. Not a lot of people get dry humor. Think people like Greg House from House, M.D. or, really, most British humor and TV shows (I think), like Blackadder. You really see dry humor from them.

GAH! nobody where I live even knows what the hell dry humours is. I mean obviously with my voice dry humour is so suitable but nobody gets it.

Girl: im going to the hockey game later

Me: *serious voice* my,going to a box museum sounds more fun than that right now.

Girl: Oh my god like why are you always so negative?everytime I say something you make these remarks that are like soooo rude!

Me: *facepalm*

Lol.

Maybe you're like me and you either:
1. Have a very bad timing for jokes, maybe out of nervosity. Ocassionaly they work though and I get people to laugh.

2. Your humor is too weird/quirky/dry for most people. I can say my sense of humor is totally different from some of the people I interact with and that makes it very difficult. Let's say I make a joke referencing some celebrity or pop culture/film/computer game thing, most people I know won't get it, other then my nerd friends. I don't really like most Dutch people's humor for the most part. I can generally get along with foreigners far better.

It's not easy to be funny! :)

Sometimes, some people just don't feel like laughing or they won't quite get what you mean. That's nothing to do with you, that's just them.

If someone is saying you have a dry sense of humour, take it as a compliment. It means there will be some people out there who will laugh - you just need to find the right people and the right moment.

Whenever I make a joke I create an awkward atmosphere. From now on I let everyone do the talking and I do the laughing.

My Asperger's friend makes me laugh just by being himself and being great with words, while I have enormous trouble. It depends on the person if they're naturally funny or not.

there are different types of sense of humor but to be honest, its very hard to 'get' a sense of humor if you dont already have one..

I don’t usually attempt to make jokes, when I do it’s usually spontaneous it’s not something that is natural to me I couldn’t write a standup comedy or anything like that. My bf on the other hand is great at that stuff it’s funny but like most things it’s not everyone’s cup of tea and that’s ok. We have fun.

Give up on the jokes. Let someone else tell them while you enjoy the laughs (whether internal or external).

My humour is sarcasm. Sometimes I leave witty remarks to things or about situations which do get laughs.

We all know that not everyone shares similar humour. Best way to help avoid making awkward moments is to get to know the group of people first.

Everyone thinks I'm unfunny too because I have an odd sense of humor that they don't understand. It's nothing uncommon, maybe one day you will cross with somebody that shares your humor.

I feel like it's the social anxiety. I used to or at least I thought I was really funny when I was younger, I was still shy but didn't really have social anxiety per se because I didn't care about my looks or how people perceived me yet. I loved to laugh and make people laugh. Once I hit adolescence and realized everyone was looking at me and could judge me, thats when my anxiety developed and when I lost a good portion of my humor. I take things too seriously now:/ I can still be funny around my friends sometimes

People look at me crazy when I make a joke. I make them all the time but only certain people seem to actually enjoy my humor. I definitely have dry humor in real life. I say things in a some what serious manner. I think it's much funner then the person acting like the joke is funny before it was even finished being said.

For some reason some people think I'm funny even though I rarely try to be. The only time I try to be funny is when I'm with family. I have a weird sense of humor, though. I'm the kind of person that laughs when a celebrity falls on stage.

Forced humor never works....when I try and be funny I look like an idiot....when I am myself and act naturally that is when I get some laughs...

Yeah, this is true. I like to laugh and will find a lot of things funny, but some people just can't make me laugh. I don't get their sense of humor.

I make my sister laugh all the time, and she makes me too, but that is because we share the same sense of humor....which is of the silly/stupid variety. Some people will look at us like we are crazy, but that is because they don't get it.

When we try and be funny it doesn't always work and it comes across as trying too hard. It is better to let things flow. Having a compatible sense of humor with someone is the best.
