I watched until they started singing. I wouldn't like being one of the people in there having to spend hours listening to crappy songs. They all look so bored.

True!! I would hate to be there, really. I hated when i had to go to the church and to be hours listening silly things in silent. What horror.

Yeah. I said I wouldn't, but Kate is so beautiful in her dress that it's hard not to watch.
I wish that I could have a day off of work just like all of England.

Yes she is very beautiful and hoping her fate doesn't turn out like Dianas.

How much are UK taxpayers going to be shelling out for this?

A lot, probably. But it doesn't matter, the monarchy is very desirable as an exercise in branding. Most of their lifestyle is state-owned and profits are collected in kind.

For example, the Crown Estate produced £200 million for the Treasury in the financial year 2007–8, whereas parliamentary funding for the monarch was £40 million during the same period.

That's from land-ownership alone, the benefits to tourism must be substantial.

I watched until William blushed on the balcony and then I had to switch off because I always get upset when people blush. My own experience has led me to believe that blushing is a horrific crime only perpetrated by the lowest of the low (such as myself).

Other than that I really enjoyed the whole thing.I still think the Queen is the star of the family.

(I hope this thread title doesn't make us more googlable)

I'm struggling to get what all the fuss is about?

Is it because everyone approves, if she had a head like a bashed crab would everyone be so excited??

Is it because everyone in the UK see's a little bit of themselves in the royal couple??

I know it's good for the english economy selling all those little spoons with the happy couple on, and the media is milking it for everything and them some.

So sorry I don't get it?

I don't get it either. They're just 2 people getting married. Weddings happen all the time. I don't think most of the people here care, I think they just want the bank holiday. I'm sure most of the people there were tourists or people who went purely because they didn't want to feel like they were missing out.

No, in my country we're just paying for things like bombing countries that pose no threat to us.

I take it, you're not one who watches Fox News. ;) :)

I really don't get it either tbh. But i suppose there are people who unlike me hate football, and they wonder why anyone would sit in front of a tv every week to watch the same old thing over and over again. So i guess i'm in the minority now, as to not wanting to watch it. But we all have our different tastes and today is there for others to show what they like, and want to be part of.

To me the best thing about the royal wedding was that it bought the country together and reminded us all of who we are and where we've come from. The wedding showcased some of the highest we have to offer, from the music and hymns, the architecture and majesty of westminster abbey, the religious traditions and respect for God, to the clothing and uniforms and the whole general behaviour and tone, and the air of dignity about the whole occasion. I think it's good for a nation to feel a sense of identity, and even more importantly to be proud of that identity. At a time when it can be difficult for us to define British culture as there are so many races and ethnicities that share our land today, and there are many things we'd rather not be known for, such as yob culture, hooliganism, etc, I felt particularly proud that we had this beautiful image of our country to send out to the rest of the world. A celebration of love of the highest order! :)
