The Car

I was fine on the forklift truck at work. In fact, I rather enjoyed it with all the open space, there were only four of us who worked at the warehouse. On the main road, that is another matter. I just would not trust myself because I over think everything. What if I had a small bump with the car? I could not deal with exchanging information; I cannot write in front of people, I would spell my own name wrong because I go blank.

I used to think the same way ''what if i ran someone over o'r crashed into someone else's car'' but thinking like this gets you nowhere. Have you got a licence? The more you drive the more relaxed you will become and driving just becomes second nature like walking. It took me a long time to feel comfortable driving alone after passing my driving test but the more i drove the more confident i became. I still get nervous driving in big cities and strange places though.

Technically I have a car. But it's a POS that my sister drove into the ground (among other things). And it's currently sitting around the corner with a dead battery and a generous coating of tree pollen.

I've only been driving for a little over a year. I still stink at parallel parking because I never have to do it. And mom still does her best to keep me from driving in Philly because "I'm not used to city driving."

Normally the dead battery would be a problem. But when one effectively has no life....

Compensating Perf? ;)

A guy has to make up for his microscopic bankroll somehow. :D

Actually, it took me four years to save up for that car. My faithful Corolla had 150,000+ on the clock and pieces were starting to fall off it. Necessity is a great motivator.

23 with no car or license lol. I did all the training, so i could go get it easliy, but with no car, whats the point? I do feel a little like im less worthy because of it. I live withing walking distance of where i work though, so i see no real need for it. Thinking about buying a vespa from a guy at work, would be better than nothing. At least then if i were to actually start seeing a woman i would be able to travel to her.

I had only car while working in England. My agency sent me to the wrong place, I didn´t know I would need to drive there. But I took it as challenge (we had to buy even our own cars ) and gradually I learned. (I had driving licence but almost 10 years old). I think I managed the car quite well but I have problems solving more complex situations, I have problems to decide quickly which lane to take etc. I think even if I had loads of practice, this won´t get better because I am bad at multifunction. I tend to panic and my mind goes blank when overwhelmed with stimuli or too much at the same time to follow. Nevertheless it is much better when there is someone going with me. For example I went with one my colleague to Birmingham (a day trip) and back and managed quite well. I also did some longer trips on my own even on the motorway and to towns and surprisingly I managed all right. And I am terrible at parking, I always scratch someones car. I also had some minor accident. Whilst having the car I was afraid to drive it but I always overcame the fear because it was in fact comfortable. No buses, trains, timetables, rain.. go whenever wherever I want. In the end I was happy I sold it anyway because I was in some bad area and someone was shoveling sand on it every night and once they broke the rear window. (They also stole my bike).
Now at home I don´t have a car because the petrol is too expensive and it´s not worth it. My father has car but he would never borrow it to me. Besides he tells me to stay away from driving because I am stupid. He said he wouldn´t care if I die, but that I kill other people.

I like to drive, my whole mind is concentration on driving and I feel safe in the car.

As far as dating goes, I could care less about what kind of car a guy has, or if he even has one... I abhor materialism.

Agreed! I'm attracted to a kind and creative soul, not an ostentatious display of materialistic wealth. Someone driving an overly flashy car is actually a turn-off to me! ::p:

I've been driving for about five years now and I love it. As i live in the countryside having a car is essential because public transport is non-existent here.
Even if my car is out of action for a few days it messes everything up as I rely on it so much.
I think you should start taking lessons as soon as possible banvard, once you get the hang of it you'll be hooked and you'll be able to be more independant once you have a car.

btw I drive a ford focus

I own a car. But I'm so sick of driving. I always got a feeling that there must be a day I would crash my car and hurt myself badly, might be got killed...I dun no

p.s. Hi! Everyone. I'm new to the forum.

I used to want one badly, but I've known too many people who've had horrible, disfiguring accidents on them so I've changed my mind ::(:

I’ve given that a thought, but what the hell, you’ve got to live. What’s the worst that can happen? I end up dead? I don’t have a problem with that.

Not only do I not have a car, but I've never even taken driving lessons. I've always been too scared, but I would try it now, if it weren't so expensive. Plus, after driving lessons, there's buying a car, paying for gas, paying for insurance, & on & on & on. The bus system around here might be discontinued soon & that means I'll have no way to get anywhere.
