Nerd is related to social anxiety because when someone thinks of a nerd they think of that person being a bookworm and anti-social. It's just another one of the thousands of insults that have been created to make insecure people feel better about themselves.
If you ask me, being a nerd is good thing because when I think nerd, I think of a smart person. It's better than being cool and dumb (I'm not saying cool people are dumb). A nerd may be socially awkward, but they also can achieve stuff like having a good job. The cool and dumb person may have an easier time socially but they also may be unemployed.
I'm not saying it's terrible to be unemployed, I know it's not easy to get a job nowadays, I was just using that as an example of why nerd=good imo.
Aren't there studies that point out that high IQ=more success on average? I thought I read that somewhere.
This reminds me of a flower delivery where this receptionist called me a nerd when I was leaving. I remember thinking, "Hmm, the joke's on you there gal. You may be calling me socially awkward, but you are also calling me intelligent. Not much of an insult there, haha."
