Australia's trying to get on the Halloween bandwagon. I hate it. It's an American holiday so it should remain American!

Well... isn't it technically a Druidian holiday? Or even a Mexican one?
haha
I love horror movies and when we have money, I do like handing out candy and seeing all the little kids in their costumes.
Don't see what's wrong with people wanting to watch scary movies and eat candy once a year? XD
I guess the sudden surge of candy consuming is good for the economy in some ways, too...
more business for dentists?

Wow, yeah, if they had heard about you, you'd be in some serious strife! Very lucky, but I like your idea of helping good people instead of punishing bad people. :D

He's not exactly being destroyed by drugs, but he's the kind of guy who shouldn't be taking them. Honestly, he is more qualified to be on this forum than I am - he's on anti-depressants and can't find any enjoyment with life (possibly why he takes drugs). He's a good kid, though. I got him a job and his mother actually called me and thanked me for it, as it has made a massive difference now that he has a job and is earning a little bit of his own money. I spoke to my friend about it, as well, and he's enjoying it. I'm glad I can help him and I told him I'll always be around if he needs anything. Feels good to help him out. :)
You seem like a great friend, good for you :)

It is good and it does work...in America. In Australia there's only a tiny number of kids out and not many houses have any candy or are prepared to acknowledge the holiday, so it's all very half-baked here. I can understand its appeal (for dentists, too!), but it's not for Australia. In my own opinion, though. ;)

Thank you. I do try to keep my mates happy. :) In fact, his mother told me that I'm a good friend to him, which she likes. She really likes me, which helps.

Well, here in Spain people just do it to get drunk in a zombie costume. This is Spain! XD

I see what you're saying!

In the more rural areas of Canada, Halloween is much more 'having a costume party at the area's community center' rather than trick or treating.
Houses are miles and miles apart- it's cold and snowy and there's no point in wearing a costume if you have to put your snowsuit on overtop.

I can see why people wouldn't be prepared for the sudden idea of buying and giving out treats when a kid may only be by once/hour.
Kids don't need more candy, anyways- in my opinion. XD
It's just a fun idea for groups of people who are willing to put the time into figuring out how to make it work, I guess.

It is a good thing for getting friends together and doing something fun, but I just think it's not integrated enough in Australian culture to take off just yet. Maybe in 20 years or whatever.

I do agree that there's enough candy out there and kids don't need any more. I'm 25 and I don't need any more, either! Haha!

It would be a little tougher in Canada because of the snow and the low temperatures. But you guys make it work and that's all that matters! :)

Cool! Tell me when you want to come :D
Haha that's if I actually get there. My mate is raving on and on and on about how he'd like to go to all these different tapas restaurants and bars, so I think that'll be the bulk of our time there. Also going to nightclubs and pubs at night. If I can go! :D

My roommates' favorite word is "dude".......

That's awful. One of my biggest pet peeves is people who say "like" all the freaking time.

No, kitty! My laundry basket is not your bed!!
AHH! My white clothes covered in black fur! T___T

I love my spooky black kitty, but I hate when she does stuff like that. Luckily, I don't wear much white. But if I hold her for even a minute, I look like I have some gnarly chest hair sticking out through my shirt. ;)

What is it with you Aussies? No Halloween??

I don't blame you. I hate Halloween. Always have, always will.

No Halloween, at least officially. We do, however, celebrate the Queens Birthday sometime in June. That's a public holiday in Australia for the Queen of England.

I adore Halloween... It is my favorite time of year. I get to be someone else and have a great big Halloween ball:) since I'm someone else...I can be silly, social, life of the party in my costume and take on a whole new persona...kind of like acting in a play. It's a wonderful break.

not actually Fiona Apple
I was tired and decided to take a nap. It went good for about three hours until I was awaken by the hooting and hollering of some college kids playing tag, or a game like it. Now it's not their age that bothers me, on the contrary I'm glad they are enjoy themselves, but at 9:00 pm at night?! Now I'm in that state where I'm too awake to fall asleep and to tired to do anything productive. Oh well, perfect for surfing spw

I want to have a couple of travel buddies. I love travelling and adventure, but have no friends. If anybody is interested, please feel to contact me. Life is too good to waste it in solitude.
