Godammit even when someone is obviously trying to be my friend, I can't shake off the idea that if I start talking to them they will go "ewwww back off I was just being polite!" so I just smile awkwardly, say nothing and avoid eye contact, which probably makes me look like a snob c*nt.

Okay thanks for listening I feel better now.

Ewwww... :p

I feel same way many times - even if it's just ppl being nice, I can yeah - esp if I'm caught off guard. I hate getting into mode of that avoiding socializing when YOU get offered or someone initiates. One thing if you have a chance and don't, but yeah not to ramble off on your thoughts. Just know you're not the only probable snob that isn't not a snob just sad. Sadly awkward :)

This is extremely interesting. I was put on stimulant medications by my parents when I was a kid and was then medicated with OTHER drugs after I started have negative side effects from taking stimulants for years...watching this documentary almost makes me sick because i never needed to be on ANY medications. I kind of wonder how much different my life would be now if I hadn't gone through bouts of deep depression and other problems basically CAUSED by medications that I never should have been on in the first place....like i wonder if I would have decided to go to college right out of high school with the rest of my peers or if I would have lived a more FULL life by now if it I wasn't given a ****ing chemical lobotomy from ages 9 through 20.

Some people just shouldn't have kids. Actually, most people shouldn't have kids. It actually makes me angry with the conditions some people are growing up in.

What the hell. My faculty decided to change the number of tuition fees from 4 to 10. The overall value is still the same. They didn't even bother to let people know about this.
I had paid the first of 4 payments already, and with this change I have paid 2.5 of 10. I thought my next payment was only at the end of the year, but now I have to pay the other half of the 3rd by the end of November.

This also makes it harder to arrange things between my parents. Each of them wants to pay half. So my dad was going to pay the 1st and 3rd and my mom was going to pay the 2nd and 4th. But with this change my dad has paid 2.5, and as far as I can tell you can't pay halves (except the one I haven't paid yet). I'll ask my dad if he's ok with paying the remaining half until November.

Do you mean that your tuition fees are now payable in ten installments, instead of only four?

Even worse is when your mouth locks up when you're trying to respond, and about one in every six letters comes out as you want them to. The rest is just kinda.. noises.

Always jump at the chance if there's any sense of the offer being authentic. Because when you inherently assume you're not worth their time and affection, you take a lot of power away from yourself.

Tell yourself that if other people miscommunicate and don't want your shining divine presence in their life, then their life will be bleaker and emptier for it.. and smellier.

That really is interesting. I'm sorry that your parents felt it necessary to put you on a bunch of medications when you didn't need them - that's terrible :(

It seems like people are giving their children medication just because they don't want to deal with their behavior - that makes me really sad. I think it should be a requirement that all parents take parenting classes to better understand child psychology so they know why they act the way they do.

My sister was a foster parent for my brother-in-law's niece and nephew both of which had behavioral problems due to their home life. It was a requirement that she take parenting classes and she told me that it's so much easier to parent when you understand why they're behaving a certain way. A lot of it is their diet too - eat crap; act like crap.

I'm starting to accept the fact that I don't like watching sports. They take too long and there are breaks all the time (this is specially true for sports in America). I like playing sports like basketball and soccer (both in real life and in video games), but I don't particularly enjoy watching them live. Watching a replay is slightly better because the commercial breaks are usually cut off, but it still feels long and boring. I guess I don't like sports when I'm not the one playing.

Me neither, man. It just kinda feels like watching millionaires play a game in an extremely over hyped format.

I know it's likely that so many people follow it so religiously because they have the need to rally behind something, and sports teams provide the opportunity to do so. But to me it just kind of feels like watching sports defeats the point of the fun and physical benefit.

Yes. My problem is that they only changed this now. You could have started paying these in July, but they waited until now to make the change. Since they didn't send a message to the students about this change, I could've had a late payment because I thought my next one could be done until the 31st of December, but with this change I have to do it a month earlier. If I hadn't checked this information on the faculty's website for other reasons, I wouldn't have known.

I'll solve this situation with my parents by paying the fees myself and they'll pay me back whenever they want. It's just 150€ a month, it's not super expensive like in the US.

^ TV has some of the worst representations of subjects, cultures, subcultures and social structures. I hate it too when they aim for sensationalism over authenticity on things that require authentic exposure. It's incredibly frustrating.

And it's nothing new either, I mean, how many people have skewed social perception due to sitcoms and the like dictating it so again and again? Granted, those aren't great references, but given enough correlation between shows it becomes a truth to those that don't know better. The same is true with every subject covered.

Agreed.

I have this thing where I feel a pain-like sensation whenever I think someone is in pain, in the spot where I think they're in pain. When I don't know where they hurt, I usually feel it in my leg.

So I was visiting my aunt who had just gotten out of surgery. I had my usual pain sensation when she got in the room and for a couple of minutes. Quite a while later I learned that the surgery had to do with her ovaries, so naturally my ovaries started hurting. It's just a bit weird since I'm a guy though.

My sister doesn't live in this country but she comes here on her holidays. My mum wanted to spend time with my sister during my mum's holidays, but my sister is always out meeting with friends. These are the last days of my mum's holidays and I'm the one staying with her so she doesn't spend them alone watching TV. I have called off a night out with my friends today so she wouldn't be alone all day long, since my sister had plans both in the afternoon and at night. Tomorrow my sister is again off to some place a bit far from here, so I will once again keep my mum company.

It's funny because she is always complaining about me not spending more time with our grandma (whom I have plenty of reasons to dislike) but she can't make time for her own mother in the 3 weeks she's here.

My family is so ****ing passive aggressive. I honestly think they're all manic depressive schizos.

Like how do you deal with people like this? As soon as you call them out on it, they gang together like a pack of ****ing jackals.

They are the sole reason I come to places like this.

As part of the new hire spiel my manager emphasizes feeling comfortable in the workplace and how it's important to watch what you say to coworkers and treat them with respect.

But then several people tell me she calls people "stupid" and has made one woman cry several times. And I believe it because I heard the way she was talking to someone and it wasn't nice.

I want to drive until I forget the person I can't stop dreaming about; until I forget who I even am. Also, it's quite alarming when you're getting out of your car and another car with tinted windows is creeping slowly by your house.

Oh, no. No no no.

That new series Mr. Robot is cool, and the fact that they're portraying a protagonist with social anxiety is a cool idea (because it's underrepresented in popular culture except to mock quiet/awkward/insecure people, and because, well, SA is ****ing boring, it's not romanticized like depression and schizophrenia, etc.).

However, while I am aware that the severity of the anxiety varies from person to person and depends upon the situation/activity, I think it's safe to say that most socially anxious people struggle with conversation. I'm sure there are many exceptions, but by the issue's very nature it only makes sense this would be the case, and if you're going to make a protagonist of a TV show have some kind of disorder/emotional issue, you would want to make him a typical case, no? You can't say he has social anxiety and then have him walking up to strangers and slickly informing them he has dirt on them and can ruin their life if they don't do A or B, without breaking eye contact, voice perfectly even and composed, facial expression confident.

They're portraying him as strange and nonconformist, someone on the fringes of society (it is cyberpunk after all), depressed, a drug user, and a psychotherapy patient. And he mentions (more than once) that he is socially anxious. Okay, so he has mental issues, we get it. But honestly, do some actual research on SA next time, it's kind of insulting. He really just looks more like a depressed drug user than anything else. I see no real social problems here.

I've been watching the series too, and have liked it (killing me they pushed the season finale off a week!) but I think, given the character's full psychology, he's portrayed pretty well.

[possible spoilers below, but I don't think so]

One thing is that it looks like to me that the cause of his SA is actually from his paranoid schizophrenia. I imagine him growing up, walking around and talking to people who were literally not there, and him being conscious of the fact that people think he's crazy, and he himself when realizing thinking the same. You can hear an extreme awkwardness in the way he talks, probably from having a mutism problem and holding back whenever having to speak. (Is this person real? Will I look crazy?) I say that because my voice I think is similar for the same reason. He can even be at ease and his voice will sound as such, it's just stuck like that.

And then some of his other qualities are that he is extremely smart, cyberpunk as you said, and cynical you could say (or at least a person who has seen the harsh realities of life). So when it comes to confronting people about dirt, I think it's a combination of knowing what to do, even if awkwardly, and not giving a ****. Like I'm sure a lot of us imagine ourselves having interactions with people, but usually are held back by the anxiety. But those moments when we say "**** it" and go through with it, a lot of times it goes just fine. I think that aspect is shown in the show.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I feel like it's accurate for a very specific kind of person with SA. They don't overemphasis it which I love. Everyone I've ever met with SA didn't really show it on the outside, I think that's a common quality.

So I tried to get out of the city and after 2 hours sitting in my car reading a book while moving a maximum distance of 3 blocks, I realized I wouldn't make it out of here. How crazy is that. Next time I'll take my horse.
