Let's hope not because not everybody wants the world to end and just disapear like that. Although it would probably happen in few thousand years.

Not really, there is no evidence whatsoever of a catastrophic event occurring near 2012.

2012 is just the year the Mayan Calender ends. My Windows Calendar ends in December 2099 but it doesn't mean the world is going to end at that time.

People have been claiming the world will end in <insert year here> for a very very very long time. The 2012 theory is no different. Back when my mom was a kid, people thought the world was going to end because they were afraid the Soviets were going to kill them all.

Like someone wrote on the Imdb-page of that movie:

"CGI wank-off"

Hollywood exhausted every topic on world destruction; comets, earthquakes, vulcanos, those kinda things - so now we have to put up with an ancient superstition for a plot...

Sorry, Im just very tired of bland disaster-movies :)

Nah, people have been saying the world's about to end through history. It's a big ball of rock supporting a variety of fauna and flora; the rock's not going anywhere and the life would have to have some solid reason to become extinct, and I see none, least of all specifically in 1012.

A deep-rooted part of me wishes it would end in 2012, futile as that is. I remember this causing conflict when I first started therapy and had to answer questions for a personality assessment to see how suicidal/neurotic/whatever I was. I don't consider myself suicidal but at the same time, I sure as hell wouldn't mind being dead.

But.... don't you have like a boyfriend? Would you not be upset that he'd die too? Or what about your family?

probably not, to be entirely honest. It's selfish but I don't have an uplifted "I want you to continue to live your life to the fullest" kind of attitude. I'm more of an "Enjoy it while it lasts. See you in Hell" person.

Of course, this is regarding some kind of world-ending disaster that I have no control over. If you gave me a button that would blow up the Earth and said it was up to me, I'd feel differently.

yeah, the thing about being dead is - you're not alive.. haha, you're not alive to feel bad about your family or your boyfriend or whomever... i mean, it's selfish and all, but i see what she's saying.. death might be one of the last things i'm afraid of, especially the world just completely ending.. i mean, who cares? if we're all dead, we're all dead and nothing is of any importance, lol... oh well! end of the world, bring it on!! lmao :D

It is thought that it would be due to a pole shift, there is evidence that it used to occur in the past and it caused extinction of dinosaurs and various animal species. Some say it occurs periodically with regularity, some say it's not regular. There is evidence of weakening polarity of magnetic field of the earth now and it sure is going to happen sometime in the future, but it seems to me improbable that it would happen so suddenly on one day and that it can be calculated so precisely, much less by some ancient culture and so far in advance. But I might be wrong.
