I actually prefer fresh mushrooms. I usually buy criminis, aka baby bellas, but they're difficult to find at a reasonable price and require a lot more effort. Also, I tend to forget that I have them, and then they go all funky in the fridge. :sad:Canned mushrooms! Get some fresh ones you heathen!
(might I recommend chestnut mushrooms)

I've never seen chestnut mushrooms (or Black Poplar mushrooms, as they're known here). I may have to have a look around for them. Thanks for the tip!
Black Eyed Peas à la Greybeard:
1 can (15 oz.) black eyed peas
1 small can (4 oz.) mushrooms
2 oz. ham, diced
1/4 large sweet onion, diced
5-8 large olives, chopped (optional)
1/4 tsp. ham-flavored soup base
1 tsp. Italian seasoning
2 tsp. garlic powder
1/4 tsp. fresh-ground black pepper
1-2 tsp. Chinese mustard (for kicks)
1-2 oz. shredded mozzarella cheese
1. Mix all ingredients except cheese in a 2-quart sauce pan.
2. Heat on medium for about an hour or until hot.
3. Top with cheese.
4. Enjoy.
^ Hahaha I feel the same way about them too! ::Canned mushrooms! Get some fresh ones you heathen!
