^ I'll be counting down to see if it actually does end in 2012
What will happen do you think? Will it blow up, or will an ice-age come? Or maybe the planet will just fall from our solar system until it falls into a new galaxy=D

as someone who reached adulthood in 1982 i can tell you that, in many ways, it was better for me

i had no other choice but to interact with people out there - in real life

Totaly!! The internet, is a HUGE enabler when it comes to SA's and Agoraphobics. It exonerates people completely of having to deal with things, that are difficult for them.

On December 23, 2012, the Earth, Sun, and black hole at the center of our galaxy will all fall perfectly in line. This will cause exactly the same scale of cataclysmic destruction that occurs when the Sun, Earth and Moon all line up: absolutely nothing. Just like December 23 every other year, when the same thing happens.

The only thing that might cause any kind of destruction, and I really hate to give 2012 doomsday theorists even this little bit to hold onto, is that 2012 will be one of the most powerful solar maximums on record. Which means... mostly nothing. Some really hot days, maybe a solar ejection knocks out a satellite or two. Nothing to worry about.

I dont mean because of your anxiety, or anything in your life time; but in 1000's of years to come when the world will have developed without you?

My tutor bought up a subject today and its made me feel mixed up. He was talking about victorian times and if we were now living in those days could we ever imagine how the world today '2011' would have developed back then.
Think forward in another 500 years (I know we wont be around then); do you ever wonder whats going to happen to the world, will anything be similar to what it is now or will every thing change? What new species will be here, what creatures will be extinct, do you think scientists will have discovered how to make people immortal, possibly bring people back to life?

Another thing I was looking at lunch time was the little clock in the bottom right of the screen, when you double click it you can make the date go up to 2099, I searched what day my birthday would be on, Wednesday and I realize I wont be here to celebrate it
Does it bother you on what you will miss out on in the future?

Actually it does bother me all the time.Whenever I read history it makes me feel that there's been so many changes in the world that those ppl just missed & 500 year afterwards or so, all of us r gonna be history along with the fact that we talked about it in this forum.
There could be many new inventions, many of our believes & customs may become ridiculous!I wonder what's gonna happen to our houses, someone else will live in them & won't have a clue that we used live there ages ago!!

Well, I hope that this generation starts a change that ensures that the dire predictions of environmental disaster do not transpire. There is a very good chance that the future world will be a poorer place for many, if we even survive as a species that long.

I don´t think I do. I am in the hands and part of nature and it knows what it is doing.

But if not, it is worrying that human beings seem to be accelerating, if anything, in development and we might not be recognizable in just a few hundred years and I want to be there.

even in 1991 - 20 years ago - i would never have predicted i would be sitting here on a laptop, chatting over wireless internet with people all over the world

this is a good reminder for anyone who thinks they have a clue as to what the future will be like

Second that! Coyote!
Life is a real development, we discover new things everyday
even coyote's can chat, how genious is that? Never knew Coyote had such a sense of humour, Roadrunner is meep'n own'd !

Oh and singing birds like us, can have social anxiety, but we should all learn to fly...:)

What I would miss, is a world full of peace and less sorrow.
I don't know if that would ever happen though, but that would be amazing.

and of course..
A world of course developed by interesting technology such as flying cars, driving boats and fire shoes.

But, I am just enjoying every single day, try to get the best out of my life.

Good topique

^ I want to live forever as well can you tell me your secret =D

Well you start by making these things called horcruxes, though I should warn you there's a bit of a catch involved in creating them, and it's probably not for the squeamish... ;)

I think things will deteriorate for most people. I wish I believed that mankind will have some kind of epiphany, and start taking a more long term view of the world and each other, but I just don't think that will happen. When you get down to it, we're just like any other animal on this planet. We consume what's around us until there's no more of it left. ::(:

I don't think that we'll have discovered how to make people immortal, or bring back dead people, but I do think that human cloning will be perfected and made available to the very rich. I think it will begin with the super rich raising clones of themselves rather than having children (children are, after all, our attempt to have a part of ourselves continue on, so why not go all the way and do it properly?) but I think there will be research into trying to map the human brain. The brain is just a physical thing, but somehow it manages to store our thoughts, feelings, memories and personalities. If we can figure out how it does that, we can re-create it. Combine the two things together, and you have your immortality right there. Just keep making more "you"s indefinitely.

For those unfortunate enough not to be extremely wealthy, I think life will just get worse. They'll work longer, in poorer conditions, and that will be when they can actually get work because the competition for work along with all other resources will only increase.

Given that I wouldn't fall into the super-rich category, I'm quite glad I won't be around to experience it. I'm actually quite happy I was born when I was, because I think I'll be able to just about get by for the duration of my lifetime. I don't envy those being born now. I think they're going to grow up in a world that's far worse than the one I grew up in.

I seriously believe the world will be destroyed or there wouldn't be any human being left after 500 years. We never screwed up the planet the way we are doing right now, taking all the natural resources, creating never before seen amount of pollution. I'm seriously wondering what's happening to all the trash we are accumulating. We are getting over our heads, since we think that nothing can happen to us, but we will react when it's too late.

snowcream,
Now that you brought it up, a little bit! But in all honesty, and I don't mean to sound cynical, but things are just getting worse it seems. The economy, people's narcissism, greed, self-centered tendencies rising it seems, and so on. I wouldn't worry too much about it. I know for a fact everyone that has ever had fond memories as a kid remembers something that is long gone. So, things have changed a lot and they'll never be that certain way again, ever. What I mean is, childhood is most important, and if you had a good one, that should be enough. The adult years just get bleaker and bleaker. So I won't be sad so see them go, or about the fact that I won't be around for Playstation 15 or the 2099 NBA finals hehe...;)

I used to be an environment student, and am very passionate about climate change. I have great fear for what will happen in the next 30 - 50 years. But deep down I do have faith in human nature. People here, for example have surprised me with their warmth and friendship. So its not all a lost cause.

I would like to around when we win over our darker natures, and come together more as a species. I have lots of issues, but I do feel lucky to be around when we can make the most difference, yet frustrated that my own abilities seem too small or few to help.

Which is why I have come to see person to person contact, how we treat each other as the starting point.

doesn't bother me at all, just like it doesn't bother me that I'm not a billionaire or that I'm not god... would it be cool to see what's here hundreds of years from now? Absolutely, it would be cool to have a few billion in the bank too, does it bother me that I can't? Absolutely not, there's plenty out there right now, there's plenty we're missing this very instant, there's plenty that we actually DO have.

I don't care how much fun can be had with a Ferrari or what it does for some peoples self esteem, could you ever imagine thinking on your death bed as you looked back at your life that getting a Ferrari was the most rewarding thing you ever had? I realize you're not talking about wealth but we're both talking about luxury. The rapid technological progress of civilization as we know it has brought to us luxuries previous generations could not have imagined and will presumably bring future generations luxuries that that we couldn't imagine. I'd much rather have a Ferrari and a nice house than a donkey and a hut but I don't think the acquisition of some material asset would revolutionize the quality of my life, I'm still going to be me, I'm just going to be me with said material asset. Likewise, going places, doing things, having things that could not be gone to, done or had isn't going to make the way we experience consciousness as radically different as some people think it would. I don't care if it's wealth, technological advancement or sorcery we're talking about. I realize that in this context, the grass really is greener on the other side but what I'm trying to say is that it's still just grass.
