Which do you prefer over the other, dogs, cats, or either one? I like cats because they match my quiet and introverted personality. They seem to promote a calm atmosphere while dogs are sort of hyper and chaotic.

I like the goofiness of them - probably depends on what you grow up with

I like dogs but i prefer cats because they are low maintenance; No need to take them for walks, pick up their poo, and bath them. The thing about cats is that most of them are not as affectionate as dogs. The two cats we have now avoid us most of the time and they never sit on our knees. The cat i had before (she died in 2003) was extremely clingy and would sit on my knee at every oppurtunity. I miss that closeness. I was devestated when she died.

I prefer dogs. I remember having a blind colie dog, he had colie eye a genetic disorder and by the time he was 2 he was completely blind, most people thought he would be useless and because of this my dad for a time was a joke between farmers, the vet even adviced on having him put down. However as a working dog he was one of the best ones we have ever had and very trusting to me & my family and would run at full pelt with the quad bike even though he couldnt see a thing. All the dogs we have had since have not been near his level of obedience, or even as good a guard dog!

I am definitely a dog person. Dogs are so loyal and loving and no two dogs are alike. I think it has a lot to do with what you grew up with. My first dog was a Border Collie puppy, my parents got him when I was just a toddler and my sister and I grew up with him. I still feel sad when I think about the day the vet told us he was sick and had to be put down.

We've had many other dogs since then and my family still have two dogs, but unfortunately as I'm living in an apartment at the moment, I can't have a dog. I didn't realise how much I was going to miss them.

P.S. For any dog lovers, have you ever seen The Daily Puppy :D.

I voted for "love them equally." I have both cats and a dog and they are like my fur kids so I can't really pick one over the other. :)

I love my dog, and I love my old cat that I don't really see anymore but I'm more of a dog person...and I know I may get bashed for this but I want opinion's....see I love my dog and I love all dogs, they got personality and I hated Michael Vick at first for what he did, but now I feel like I can relate with him becuase he doesn't seem bad more like he made a dumb mistake but the world hates him, and the more the world hates him the more I want hm to come back and win the superbowl and I'm beggining to hate these PETA people. I feel like I know what it's like to be me against the world. I still do't condone what he did but I'm not ashamed to say I'm rooting for the man to get on his feet again.

I'm definitely partial to dogs. If I'm going to be giving my time and energy to a pet, I'd like to at least receive the illusion of happiness in return.

I haven't had the best experiences with pet cats, but I look at it like this: if my presence is going to be merely tolerated by a natural predator that will not return my love and affection, I'd rather get into falconry. At least a hawk would give me a reason to get off my bum and go outside. And there's always that twisted little dream of mine to train a golden eagle to hunt feral cats. Just imagine, a "pet" bird that eats "wild" cats. Oh, the irony. :)

But before the dreaded "cat people" hiss and swat at me, the main reason I haven't seriously considered falconry is the part where your bird kills cute, furry little animals. And the part where they'll catch it but don't kill it quickly.

I love dogs allot more. Because I need something to take care of, being that cats are so darn independent they don't require as much care. Besides I rather enjoy teaching my canine friends tricks and also how to retrieve and hunt. It's pretty hard to hunt behind a cat, unless the cat is the size of a leopard... :D

I like dogs, although I have never had cats. Dogs give you a reason and a purpose to be out and about. They also interact in your daily life and want to be around you. My dog died at Christmas and it was a strange few months without a dog. We got another one quite recently, a totally different character.

I love both, but as it's already been said, cats are a lot more independant and like to go out and do their own thing. Puppies and kittens are both equaly adorable, though.

When they are fully grown, I prefer a larger dog, because they're easier to hug :) It's like having a giant, living teddy bear, lol. But, having said that, we have one tom cat who always puts his arms around me when I pick him up, which cheers me up.
