The only preparation you need is a gun, ammo, the ability to shoot well and know who has what you need.. Then you just kill for what you need.. Survival in it's simplist form.

This is why survivalists stock up on guns AND nonperishable food items. There's no use having anything if you can't defend it.

he is very intelligent for preparing for the worst. the average sheep doesnt have the slightest idea what they will do when the SHTF even if they worry about it every day. I think it i irrational to be concerned about old Mayan prophecies but what motivates people is not necessarily logical, so who am I to judge? at least he ha channeled that fear into action which might save his family some day if the worst happens.

Nothing will happen.
I'm sure of it....It will pass like any other day.
And the people who wasted money on supplies and bunkers that cost thousands(Though...one of those huge underground bunkers would be cool no matter what....batcave!)
And filling themselves and those around them with pointless fear.
Will feel like fools.
....Until the next doomsday prophecy that they'll buy into of course.

I remember my neighbors preparing for Y2K
Stocking up like the OP's brother.heh
When the night came....my father, brothers and I were lighting fireworks.
And they were home....but not a light was on in the house...not a sound being made.
They were cowering in their house with the lights off.........

My dad actually really buys into this one though.
He's not preparing...but He thinks something is going to happen.
"SOMETHING" Seems to be the popular guess.
Even MY brother who I would have never thought would belive such crap..has been talking about it.

Me?
I don't believe it one bit.
It's a hype machine and nothing more.
Selling movie tickets to movies like 2012 and getting the fearful to tune in to the countless television programs on the matter.
Fear=Profit

I had planned out this big "end of the world" party
that I wanted to throw.
But It looks like it's not going to happen...damn it.

Hrm,Maybe I WILL join in on the preparation for the end of the world by cutting my hair into a mohawk and buying some shoulderpads and a pair of assless chaps.

most prophesies are self-fulfilling. the more people believe they're going to happen, the more they happen. our thoughts and behavior become inclined into making them come true. if someone tells you "you're going to die today," it would bother you so much that when you cross the street, you wouldn't notice a truck coming until it runs you over.

the collective human psyche can create an atmosphere potent enough to impact it's immediate environment. thus, the countless accounts of violence. where there's an air of resentment, it's easy to be angry. where there's an air of fear, it's easy to feel scared. and everyone of those who share the same emotional frequency work together unconsciously for the same end. wars are no more than a collection of hateful people with opposing desires. but their end game is the same- spread misery and destruction. same rule applies for that end-of-the-world thing.

They said it before, I don't think anything will happen on 21th of December, it will be just a normal day.

I rethought this and considering that I do blacksmithing and knifemaking, after 21 December I am going to have a roaring trade going.

The Mayans predicted an end of an age, but they believed it also ushered a new age afterwards I think, like a rebirth, I believe (it's been a while so this may not all 100% accurate) they went through 4 such rebirths in their documented history.

What I find very interesting, is when translated they call it the flipping of the earth, we now know that the poles do actually shift. And we are due one at some point in the future.

Pole Shift May Be Imminent , Please Educate yourself - YouTube

But I think any link between the two is romantic/wishful thinking on my part :)

I do like to think on our precarious situation but I don't buy into any of this specific doomsday (imo) theories.

A pole shift will not happen over night ,it's a process that can take many years...if the poles started right now to shift I pretty sure I will be long dead before they are completely reversed.

I think it's a waste of energy to worry about anything in the first place, let alone some vague silly prophecy that has only been brought under attention and distorted in its true meaning to sell stuff to people who will believe anything.

I don't own a gun, guns aren't even allowed in my country. I don't know much about survival. I don't know what I'll do when our dykes flood. Why would I worry about things I can't control? I have enough problems on my own that I need to focus on. Going all Dwight Schrute from the Office, with guns hidden everywhere and 50 books about surviving in a post apocalyptic world will only make me a huge self-righteous paranoid weirdo who is out of touch with reality. Call me a sheep, but that's my opinion.

I agree if you're living in an area that is prone to earthquakes or hurricanes, it might be smart to always take precautions and know what to do in the case of such a disaster.

Inevitably eventually somewhere down the line in hundreds of thousands or millions of years humanity will face a huge global disaster. Wether it be a asteroid hitting, a new ice age, the earth becoming uninhabitable due to our exhausting the planets resources and destroying its eco systems, a global fallout , an unstoppable epidemic, etc. we will face something big as has happened before to older ecosystems and animal groups.

But it won't happen in our lifetimes.

I never said they did happen overnight :) Did you watch the video? A polar shift may take a while to build up, but the flip itself can be pretty dramatic.

The current general worrying aspect of this isn't the actual flip itself :) It's the weakness In the field which protects us from the radiation from the solar storms the sun kicks out at us everyday. This is already happening :)

Watch the video if you get the chance and feel like doing so, it's quite informative and interesting.

the nature of those events is that they are unpredictable, you cant say when they are likely to happen or not. and Dwight Schrute is not a weirdo he's a highly successful paper salesman, show some respect

videos like that always freak me out, I'm a over thinker, and my death is one of the thing I can't stop thinking about. Yet I always watch them

I know we are all gonna die one day, but I prefer to die out of nowhere than waiting for my death

Well there have been several dates before this that suggest the world was coming to an end. I hardly imagine I would be this lucky really.
