Damn cockroaches

this fear has been haunting me since I was what? 8 years old? I'm a 20 years old guy now, I'm not afraid of snakes, spiders, rats or any other insects or pests. but when that alien of an insect appears swaying his antennae. I get petrified while everybody laughs at me. it's just something I can't handle at all. it all began when I was sleeping in peace. and a nasty, big roach crawled on my face and stuck his antennas in my nostrils EWWWW. I was 8 then, imagine a friggin 8 years old kid experiencing that! I woke up terrified that day, just like a statue.
i recently began a small baby steps program to get rid of that fear. I was terrified of any roach big or small. but now I can toss away small roaches and crush them (not with my hand or leg though) but I consider it an improvement. although I convince myself that I will eventually reach the BIG roaches step. I know deep inside, that it will never, ever happen.
what should i do to convince myself that he's smaller and weaker than me?

Roaches are more scared of you than you are of them. To them, you are Godzilla and they feel overpowered.

Try to keep your place as clean as possible so that roaches don't come often.

Most people are afraid of snakes, so that's not an unusual fear at all. I'm afraid of snakes enough to avoid them if I ever see them.

Spiders don't scare me anymore because I kill them when I get the chance.

Imo many people are the same as you and are afraid of the bugs and snakes like u mentioned. It's not really a bad thing. I think the real problem is when people are like me and don't like being around people in many cases. It's the social phob that is the problem.

I remember this very outgoing dude who was the most popular guy in my high school class and he was terrified of a moth and wasps. It didn't effect his life in a bad way at all. He was happy and everyone loved him.

Ewww, glad its too cold for them here in the UK :/

I scream (yes scream) at the sight of a wasp! I cannot even look at pictures on the new or in books because my phobia is so strong, I was stung as a child and the fear stayed with me.

Im petrified of spiders. If i cant kill it i run from it.

Wasps, bees, hornets, fire ants, you name it.

I once found this very strange beetle in a box from the UK, red with black spots and two feeler thingies coming out of its head. I had no idea what it was as id never seen one before. I went and got one of our girls who happens to be from the UK and she laughed at me for being afraid of it and said it was a typical garden beetle from the UK. Then she picked it up and took it with her.

Bottom line is your not alone :). I HATE bugs.

I once lived in this filthy trailer near some woods. roaches were everywhere, so I guess I could fear something after seeing them every day. But, they still gross me out. Sometimes large ones would appear, and to make it worst some of them could even fly. Those were the ones which made it hard for me to sleep at night::(:.

I've seen 'em only in hospital, in a hotel in Thailand, where pests feed on remains and warmth, like rats. Roaches little did appear in my apartment a few times and that was horrible. I spent so long paranoid, trying to think what the source could be; from strange post? But I did realise there are exhaust vents shared between kitchen & bathroom; they must have crawled in from the air, against the flow. No more. That was a one-off, a decade ago.

I think of the term for recruiters or middlepeople who feed off an unaware host, and thrive on their rewards. They should be eliminated

When I was a pre-school kid, I was read a story from a book, in the garden in summers, by my friends' dad. My concentration was on a wasp that flew into my rubber boots. I felt it against my leg skin, and decided to crush it. The sting hurt.

Best wasps are around used pints of beer in a pub garden. I managed to build a multi stack of glasses stuck top to bottom, forming a trap. Plenty of wasps reacted crazy in there, but later appeared to fall asleep. The staff didn't feel like dismantling the glasses. All my mates loved it, as a piece of art.

I lived with my older brother in Texas back before they moved out of an old house filled with rats. He told me one night when he was sleeping a rat crawled onto his back. He grabbed it with his hand and threw it off of him. I laughed cause he said for the rest of that night, everytime his wife bumped him with an elbow or foot he'd jump up an look around. He didn't tell her until they finally moved out.

Oh dear god if I caught a roach on my face, I would die too. I've never had experiences with roaches before, have never seen on up close, but I'm sure I'd be easily freaked out by them. I'm already petrified of spiders. I can't stand being around them, and depending on the size I will almost always run away from one rather than kill it. I usually have someone else kill it for me.

My mom is like that with wasps too. I get nervous when they come near me, but I don't scream. My mom goes all-out: screaming, running, hysterical. hehe. Poor thing :p
