Common similarities amoung SAers

1. The youngest child [EDIT: or eldest child (rarely middle child)] I'm actually an only child, though technically, I do have two much older half-brothers I was never raised with & don't know. So that would make me youngest, too, I guess.
2. Appear younger than actual age: True, I guess. People always tell me I look younger than I am. I even get mistaken for someone in their late teens (I'm 27), but I don't see it when I look into the mirror.
3. overprotective mother [EDIT: or guardian]: No, my mother wasn't over-protective at all. Actually, I think I was over-exposed to certain things-- if only inadvertently.
4. Good student/ teachers pet: In elementary school I got good grades, but as I grew older, my anxiety increased & my grades decreased greatly.
5. Perfectionist? To a certain extent.
6. Mathematical/all or nothing type of brain? In certain ways, yes. In certain ways, no.
7. Non-conformist? Yes.
8. control freak? Yes, sort-of.
9. intelligent? Yes.
10. have cats or dogs? Cats. :)
11. unemployed or on disability? Unemployed-- never been employed.....
12. underachieving?Yes.

I'm glad you asked this...

5. perfectionist.....= someone who isn't content with anything less than perfection....here's a good test to see whether you are a perfectionist or not:

Are you a Perfectionist?

basically it's a person who doesn't like making mistakes, or doing anything wrong, as you fear people will reject you because of it.

6. Mathematical/ all or nothing type of brain....= someone who thinks that in most tasks there is a "right" way and a "wrong" way to do things and rarely see's the grey area inbetween.....this interested me a lot because I have a very black and white brain, and yet the nature of social relationships is anything but black and white. There are rarely "right" and "wrong" responses in social communication.

7. non-conformist....= basically someone who thinks for themselves. If a group of people all do something, a non conformist would be reluctant to immitate them without first thinking for themselves if it's the right thing to do or not......I thought this was interesting too, because sometimes I reckon that if I were more of a conformist I'd have probably forced myself to go to pubs and clubs and do all the same things as most people do, and maybe my SA wouldn't be as bad today.

11. Unemployed or on disability.....= "unemployed" means you don't currently have a job, and "on disability" means you're claiming some sort of government benefits due to your psychological problems. [i think...is that right?]

12. underachieving.....= Basically someone who doesn't have much success in life. An "overachiever" would be someone who connects there sense of self worth directly to their achievments in life, and therefore works incredibly hard to get the "A" grades and the high scores so that they can feel good about themselves. An "underachiever" would be someone who doesn't live up to their potential. Or someone who lacks the motivation to acheive success.

also, 8. Control freak.....you didn't ask, but I just wanted to add my reasons for adding this.....I've always liked control a lot...I like to be in control of my life and to have everything organised and to a certain extent I've always liked to be in control during conversations....when I was younger I was often the leader in most groups.....but as I grew older I found conversation harder and I lost a lot of that control, and I guess I wondered if this was a similar trait amongst SAers?

1. The oldest child by 14 minutes.
2. Do I look younger than 28? I get into 21+ places easily by showing my balding head, slouching a bit, and just looking kind of sad....
3. overprotective mother: Somewhat so, yes.
4. Good student/ teachers pet - Up until high school, YES! My record was 23 straight marking periods with all A's. I spent 6 years trying to get through high school while doctors made me their guinea pig, and I still want to break their kneecaps. After HS I stopped caring.
5. Perfectionist? Unfortunately yes. I always preview my posts to check for spelling and punctuation errors.
6. Mathematical/all or nothing type of brain? I never really cared for math. But definitely all or nothing. I either give something all of my effort or none at all.
7. Non-conformist? Maybe just apathetic towards others?
8. control freak? Nope. Too laid back for that. If I was I might take control of my life.
9. intelligent? Seriously, would anyone say they aren't? I think before I type, if that's any indication.
10. have cats or dogs? Yup. See the photo thread for a shot of me and my little nubbin.
11. unemployed or on disability? Haven't worked in years. Not that I haven't tried, though.
12. underachieving? If going from one of the best students in your class to a withered, frightened sliver of my former self isn't underachieving, there must be some real underachievers out there.

Has anybody else noticed that there seem to be some common similarities amoungst people with SA? Here's a few I've noticed already;

1. The youngest child [EDIT: or eldest child (rarely middle child)]
2. Appear younger than actual age
3. overprotective mother [EDIT: or guardian]
4. Good student/ teachers pet

Are there any others?

EDIT: some more possibles

5. Perfectionist?
6. Mathematical/all or nothing type of brain?
7. Non-conformist?
8. control freak?
9. intelligent?
10. have cats or dogs?
11. unemployed or on disability?
12. underachieving?

Lol, good post. What's funny is I fit into every category instead of the first one. I'm a middle child. I'm not a perfectionist either. The rest of those suit me though. I sure hope people think I'm intelligent:} Oh yeah, I'm not a control freak, either.

1. The youngest child No, I'm the middle kid.
2. Appear younger than actual age Eh, I think I look my age.
3. overprotective mother [EDIT: or guardian] Not really. My mom is very passive.
4. Good student/ teachers pet YES, completely. Not necessarily because I was an A student, but because I was quiet and behaved in class.

Are there any others?

EDIT: some more possibles

5. Perfectionist? YES. Very much so.
6. Mathematical/all or nothing type of brain? Not really. I was good at math but I had to write out all my work on paper. Couldn't really work it out in my head. Sometimes I get into all or nothing thinking patterns, but I always coax myself out of them and try to think in shades of gray. For example, I don't think of people as being good or evil anymore. Everyone has a bit of both in them. :)
7. Non-conformist? I'm in the middle. Do what I can to help those around me while retaining my individuality.
8. control freak? Sorta. But I just control things that relate to myself. Like I won't let someone mess with my room but their own room can be as messy as they want it to be.
9. intelligent? Average, but I think a lot because I have so much free time. So that makes me more intelligent.
10. have cats or dogs? No.
11. unemployed or on disability? Unemployed.
12. underachieving? Yesss. Because I didn't want attention in school.

1. The youngest child [EDIT: or eldest child (rarely middle child)]- Yeap, oldest.
2. Appear younger than actual age- Yeap, girls sometimes said I had a babyface.
3. overprotective mother [EDIT: or guardian] - I guess so, but they weren't extremely overprotective.
4. Good student/ teacher’s pet-Well, teachers always liked me because I was a good student, but I never was really amiable with them or anything.
5.Perfectionist?- If it's about certain things, especially things related to my future career, I am. But overall, I'd say no.
6. Mathematical/all or nothing type of brain?- No... which is a major reason I never could wrap my head around physics XD
7. Non-conformist?- Yes, but I'm also not conforming to be a non-conformist :p
8. control freak?- I think innately I was, but over the years I've been able to let this part of me go, so no.
9. intelligent?- Above average at least.
10. have cats or dogs?- Two family cats that I lurv to see whenever I visit home.
11. unemployed or on disability?- No, college student.
12. underachieving?- No. I don't think anyone can say they've never underachieved, but I'd say relative to others I'm not underachieving.

So, what do you guys want to do with all of this data? We could get some descriptive statistics going. We can even go into inferential stats, but we'd need to ask people who don't have SA these questions as well, and there's the problem that this is not a random sample; but it could still be run ^_^
