People have been rushing and crowding stores like crazy here this weekend. Everyone seems stressed as hell and have been nothing short of rude everywhere I've had to go. I think it's the fact that the holidays are coming up and everyone is panicking again on what to do given how 2020 has been this far. That plus everyone is still in a tizzy over the election and having pissfits about it. Boy I wish everyone would just shut up and just accept what is. 🤦

I took some much needed time yesterday and went for a walk for a couple hours. Went to the park and also checked out a nature preserve -- really just a large chunk of woods with a pond that had trails put in -- that opened near my house this year. I didn't see too much wildlife unfortunately, it was a cold and sunny day, but it was still nice being away from everyone else. Didn't spend much time taking pictures but did find a couple nice views.
Beautiful pictures, Phoenixx! Yes, I've noticed this and last weekend, there have been more people out at the stores and on the road. I just hope it doesn't cause the covid numbers to spike again (although it probably will). Yesterday, they had some kind of march in Washington DC to protest the results of the election. I saw the news footage and noted that many of them weren't wearing masks or social distancing. I don't know how that's going to turn out in the long run but I agree with you. People need to stop to stop with the unrest.

Glad you got some quality, me-time in. I feel this is very necessary at times for all of us!

Theres nothing quite as refreshing as being out in nature with no people around

There are so many ads on this site it’s unbelievable without an ad blocker.

Wow! Never seen anything like it!!

impossible to focus there’s ad after ad and a drop down ad too.

Ad Blocker needs to be on for sure. Wish I could use it here.

Why don't those 275+ become members?
250 of them are search engine spiders or other kinds of bots and not humans. 15 are people who were googling something totally unrelated to social anxiety that brought up an old thread here in their search results. 5 refuse to join unpopular forums, because that'd make them uncool. 4 were overwhelmed by the ads and gave up. The other one is too anxious to join and post.

Since I've stopped using google search (I now use "duck duck go" as my search engine) I don't get them anymore. DDG doesn't track you and smash u with ads like Google does.

Yeah I think I have PTSD which seems to be very tied into the same feelings.
Yeah, I'm hyper vigilant and hyper responsive again and again to similiar stimuli that are not threatening. This has been going on for so long and needs sorting out.

Using CBT to learn how initially not to get so agitated upon seeing the stimuli and secondly how to reestablish normality when I become agitated. Gotta break this continuous cycle that happens all the time. Much of it is residual from my substance abuse days.

Thank you for the suggestion Pug. I am trying it right now. I already had it downloaded but still am not using it regularly. Still stuck on Chrome. Need to stop using google.

How is CBT working for you?

Regardless of all the disinformation and misinformation that we have experienced in the last years, the amount of knowledge available to the populace in the 21th century is truly unprecedented.
I think in this century we need to massively shift efforts from teaching people facts (which was important in the 20th century) to teaching people how to critically examine information and distinguish reality from fiction. In a world with unlimited information and unlimited disinformation at our fingertips, people can learn anything they need on their own as long as they know how to evaluate information they find. Whereas all the teaching you can give does no good if they haven't learned not to be manipulated by the next thing they come across.

I usually love shopping for and making gifts for people, which is why Christmas is one of my favorite holidays, but finding out what to make or get for my sister-in-law's family and other non-gift givers/I-don't-give-a-crap-about-any-of-this drives me nuts. I want to make people happy, especially after this year, but at the same time I don't want to get someone something they're just going to complain about. Ugh. 😒

I'm one of the 45% who responds. I had 8 sessions maybe a year ago. I've put it as my central therapy again. I use the classic 7 column thought record worksheet although now I do it in my head.

I using it to challenge my continued and totally unnecessary fear of people coming towards me. I flight/fright freeze. Now and your samey PSTD post helped, can just accept that the oncoming person is absolutely no threat at all.

If, as will often be the case my adrenaline spikes the second part of CBT is just to reframe the event/thought and maybe wonder how to cope better next time.

Got to really get at the issues without being too hard on yourself.
