Would you rather have lunch with a stranger or with an acquaintance?

I'd much rather have lunch with a complete stranger. I feel too much pressure around people who (I feel) expect certain behaviors out of me, as an acquaintance would (at least in my mind).

ahhh... maybe I feel equal pressure-- I'm equally scared of strangers and acquaintances but there'd be slightly less risk in 'having lunch' with someone I already know.

...probably...
I don't know.
haha

Possibly neither. I wouldn't want to have a one-on-one conversation with people I don't or hardly know.

If I had to choose, though, it would be with a stranger. An acquaintance is basically someone I barely see for some reason and it would be awkward. A new person can be a new experience.

Just depends who the aquaintence is. But I rather have lunch with someone I know then w/ a complete stranger.

then again - depends on who that stranger is.

No one to be honest and if I did have to it would be with a date or my partner.
I hate eating in front of people

Me too. Today I had lunch with a group of people I work with. I tried to take a bite of broccoli and it didn't quite make it into my mouth, lol. Now everytime I see those people at work I'm going to be afraid that all they see when they look at me is that piece of broccoli falling out of my mouth. ::eek::

Aww lol!
I donno what it is for me I just feel uncomfortable, people have often said I eat like someones about to steal my food too lol. Whatever that means!!

I'm a fussy eater too so that makes eating out awkward!

Definitely acquaintance. I'm more comfortable around those than I am around strangers. At least I know them a little.

It depends on the person. I can do OK in social situations as long as its not up to me to drive the conversation forward. Strangers can be easy to talk too if they are friendly and chatty, but there is less of a risk factor of rejection with someone that you already know..

If that makes sense.

If I had to, I'd rather have lunch with a friend. I'd be too worried about making an impression with a stranger.

Speaking of which, it's my mum's 40th birthday on the weekend, and we're going out with family and people I don't know! ::eek::

I'd rather eat alone.
If that was an option in this thread, I'd have chosen this one. I can eat at my pace and if I want to chew with my mouth open, by golly I'll do it!

Also listening to other people eat grates on me.

I think I'd be ok talking to both, but having lunch with an acquaintance can be awkward if you just can't click.

haha good answer :D

That's an interesting question. I think it's almost worse with an acquaintance because a stranger doesn't know who you really are and for the time that one lunch they don't have to find out if you fool them.

I couldn't tell without more information.

Eating with a stranger is terrifying, while eating with an acquitance is just scary... but probably the stranger would look somewhere else and eat without saying a word and then leave, while the acquitance may want to.... TALK!

I can be very awkward with new people. Acquaintances are no picnic either since they would want to "catch up" and I really have nothing to say when it comes to that, and it becomes uncomfortable quick. I'll go with stranger...but not someone completely random like "Is this seat taken? May I sit with you...blah blah." Do those types of scenarios even take place? In my worst nightmares they do!
