Why are people so cold?

sometimes I wonder why other people are "cold" tho. Another question (I guess kind of unrelated but still related) is why are people still racist and sexist in this day and age. People actually make racist remarks at me once in a while (I'm half Trinidadian and half Dutch). Is it ignorance?

Reviving an old thread but am I the only person who finds comments like this on the internet incredibly wrong? I support Crystal Palace F.C. and got them from a fan's forum.

'Who the hell is this mong faced bitch on BBC news channel this morning?

At least I have the beautiful Laura Tobin doing the weather to make up.'

They are always making comments like this and they make me  I could find loads and loads of comments like this on that site. Please tell me that I'm not the only one who gets angered by this.

I always try to be a friend and understanding and try to be a day brightener to people around me, I really don't know if I prevail in that category but I try me very best..
I find kids these days being really cold hearted or if the have a heart even some of them.

It's just because she is so nice, people probably think they can take advantage of the situation and try to get you not to like her by making fun of her or something. Idk **** the rest and make it work with her.

It's the internet. Anonymity is the only reason they'd say something like that.

With every child that looks like they'll be trouble, there's one that won't be. I work at a primary school and I have seen some absolute horrors there, and I have also seen some sweet kids. I remember one girl who couldn't have been older than 11 call me "hot" in front of about 10 parents, so I think that one will be very confident when she grows up. She also had a mean streak in her.

My mate's 9-year-old sister is the sweetest thing, too. She's always nice to me, even though she barely knows me, and never complains about anything. She will grow up to be a wonderful woman if she doesn't change.

It's down right ignorance and stupidity. If you compare the being of somebody to whether or not they are disgusting in correlation to their breast size that just exposes what small brain they have.

Anonymous or not, if I see a girl that I don't find particularly attractive I don't think she's a mong-faced bitch let alone type it. I don't understand why the first thought that seems to come to people's minds is always the most spiteful. Why do people need to think these things let alone say them?

Mocking and insulting others just for the sake of it has gone on since the dawn of civilization, so it's certainly not just 'people these days.' It's a bonding mechanism which people use to try and create common ground with others by having a cheap and easy laugh at someone else's expense. Someone's appearance is the most accessible thing we have when we don't know another person, so that's usually the first thing to be criticized. It's really just human nature, which as we all know, can be quite ugly. There are also more people on earth today so these practices are more commonplace and readily observable. The fact that we live in a time where social norms and basic courtesy have been thrown out the window doesn't really help things though. But societal values come and go in cycles; we live in a comparatively barbaric time now, but it's entirely possible that in years to come we'll have a more compassionate, morally upstanding society. But you can never really stamp out the nastiness of human nature. It's more about how well you conceal it.

It's just people being superficial, and saying them on the internet highlights my anonymity point. :)

To be fair, though, the first thing I would notice about a stranger is how they look rather than who they are. It takes a few minutes to gauge their personalities, though.

I know exactly what you mean. It's as though they expect everyone to be attractive, and have nothing but hate for those who aren't. I can't even begin to understand it.

This happens all the time. Men will insult women's looks, women will insult men's looks. Like Kinetic said, looks are right in front of people and is a simple thing to observe, so of course looks are commonly judged.

People are cold in ways like that because people are imperfect, both the people doing the insulting and the people being insulted. Heck, even I'm guilty of making fun of certain women, not to their face but joking around with my friends in the past. I'm not saying it's right but it could be worse. They could be saying that stuff when the person is within earshot, which is far worse. Or to their face, which is really bad.

The world can be a cruel place. I've come to an acceptance of this, and found a little more peace.

Exactly, it's as if they think, if I don't find you attractive, no matter how hard you've worked to get where you are, you are not deserving of stepping into my eyeline. It's disgusting. If I find someone attractive but I find out that they have an attitude like that mentioned above, I lose my attraction to them. However, people that I don't find so attractive but have a lovely personality I have a hell of a lot more respect for them.
