UK meetup?

What do you think of an SPW meetup in the UK?

Been to a few meets on SAUK, not my cup of tea I'm afraid, found it better meeting people in two's or three's privately (my two best freinds are SA'ers), trouble with internet meets is wierdo's turn up, my advice, do a PM invite meet so people only on forum know the time and place.

I would love to meet up with fellow sufferers, but I am afraid my fears of travelling and meeting people are just too great. Maybe some other time in the future, when I am better.

Ah, good point! Ok, looks like the best way to do this would be to PM anyone who votes yes and arrange the details privately so that no random (and possibly strange!) people get the details and turn up ;)

Only if I lived there.

What county do you live in?

I understand, I usually feel like that too. I think the thing that'd make me comfortable with meeting other SPW members is knowing that they'll be as nervous as me and won't judge me harshly for it the way some people do.

yep, I'd be up for a meetup!

would it be massively rude to suggest we have some guidelines or possible rules for the meetup?....i.e. I think giving details out over PM is a good idea. Also maybe only allow users that have either posted a certain number of posts [at least 30 approx?] or who have been members for a certain length of time [i.e. since BEFORE this thread was posted].....I know that might sound a bit rude but I think it's fair, because then we won't risk any weirdos seeing the thread and signing up now.....[they'll have to wait for the next one! ;)]

also if more than 8-10 people want to meet up it might be an idea to split up into smaller groups on different days...only I reckon a group of 10 or more strangers, all with SA, meeting in a strange place, may well need someone to take charge a bit....and I know I'd rather not be in that situation!

Nope, not rude at all, lol! Guidelines are a good idea and would probably make everyone feel more comfortable. I don't think an enormous group is a good idea either, it'd probably make it pretty stressful! Haha no I don't want to have to take charge either, I'm no good at organising myself, let alone other people! ::eek:: It'd be better if everyone who wants to meet up could come to a mutual decision on the details, I prefer a democracy to a dictatorship, lol ;) I'm happy for anyone to PM me about this though :)

I like the idea of going to a meetup...but i know i'd be waaaaay to anxious to do it, i just wouldn't function properly lol
Maybe we could organise a smaller meetup for some of us so it's not so scary? I don't wanna push anyone though, I know how annoying it is when people try that with me! I hope we wouldn't have to worry too much about functioning properly though, as we know we'd all be nervous so we wouldn't have to put on an act and pretend to be super-confident or anything!

Would be really interested in meeting up with other sufferers but public transport scares the hell outta me but would be willing to make the effort depending where it was...if a meet was set up in the west midlands area that would be great and id so be there even if i had to have a few drinks first to calm myself!

Haha yeah, I do that all the time when I have to go out and socialise! It just takes the edge off those awkward first few minutes for me ;)

Ok, I have a suggestion: so that we can work out where would be best to meet up and whether we'll need to split this into two or more separate meetups, please could everyone who's voted interested or possibly interested state which county/general area they live in and how far they'd be able to travel? If you don't want to post it in this thread, feel free to PM me :)

I personally won't be able to meet up in the immediate future as I'm having a bit of a cash crisis at the moment (been made redundant and not receiving any benefits, it's crappy but I won't bore you guys with the details here!!) so I don't have any spare money for travel and spending. I do definitely want to meet up at some point though when I've sorted things out a bit! ;) If anyone here wants to arrange a meetup for some time soon though, I'm still more than happy for you to PM me and I'll help sort out the details. (Pease note: this is NOT a plea for money to travel or anything of the sort, as that is something I would never do! I know this should go without saying, but things can easily get misinterpreted over the internet and I don't want people to get the wrong idea, lol!)

Sorry to hear about that princess_haru, I was recently made redundant as well, sucks doesn’t it. Just a little idea, what about a day trip somewhere? Instead of travelling all the way, just to sit down and be nervous, why not be nervous while doing something interesting while making friends?
