I once made a really good sandwich.
If it was some variety of grilled cheese, I'll be impressed.
A lot of people underestimate how extraordinarily difficult it is to pull of the perfect grilled cheese sandwich.
You have to use good quality cheddar, which doesn't melt so easily as the fake stuff. You have to get it melted all the way through to the middle, and you have to do that without getting the pan so hot that you singe the outside of the bread. You have to use the exactly correct amount of butter in the pan so that it's crispy and never soggy.
By God, it's no easy feat!![]()

Your cheddar sandwich sounds pretty great too. I'd add ham and a serve it with a little bit of ketchup, though.
What the hell are you talking about? Cheddar isn't bad, but the best grilled cheese is made with American cheese. And mine are always perfect thank you very much!
...just had one for dinner, actually![]()
It was not a cheese sandwich!
It was bacon, potato salad, lettuce, with the bread toasted over an open flame (dry dark scorch textured on the surface but still perfectly pliable on the inside), slightly buttered on the inner sides afterwards when it was still warm.
..It took four tries not to catch the bread on fire, but once I had time and distance down, and the smoke cleared, it was fantastic.

Philistine! Heretic! Nothing so bland and artificial should ever be called "cheese".
Everyone bring it, I'll defend this statement to the grave!![]()
I can lick my elbow. It's quite a challenge.
