What position do you sleep in? A study has shown that the sleeping position you prefer is linked to your personality.

Foetus

Those who curl up in the foetus position are described as tough on the outside but sensitive at heart. They may be shy when they first meet somebody, but soon relax. This is the most common sleeping position, adopted by 41% of the 1,000 people who took part in the survey. More than twice as many women as men tend to adopt this position.

Log

Lying on your side with both arms down by your side. These sleepers are easy going, social people who like being part of the in-crowd, and who are trusting of strangers. However, they may be gullible.

Yearner

People who sleep on their side with both arms out in front are said to have an open nature, but can be suspicious, cynical. They are slow to make up their minds, but once they have taken a decision, they are unlikely ever to change it.

Soldier

Lying on your back with both arms pinned to your sides. People who sleep in this position are generally quiet and reserved. They don't like a fuss, but set themselves and others high standards.

Freefall

Lying on your front with your hands around the pillow, and your head turned to one side. Often gregarious and brash people, but can be nervy and thin-skinned underneath, and don't like criticism, or extreme situations.

Starfish

Lying on your back with both arms up around the pillow. These sleepers make good friends because they are always ready to listen to others, and offer help when needed. They generally don't like to be the centre of attention.

What does your sleeping position say about you as a p[erson ?

I personally have always slept in the "freefaller" position, I can't sleep in any other position now matter how hard I try. I read the description and saw "gregarious, sociable, brash" and thought "no way!" then I realized that's what my subconscious personality really is, it's who I am deep inside and it's covered with emotional baggage that hides it. I definitely don't like criticism or extreme situations.

So anyway, what position do you guys sleep in?

I like this! I voted "Yearner" but it's a mix between that and Freefaller. The personality description for Yearner matched me more so. I also can't sleep on my back and I don't know how people do it, loool. Makes me feel like I'm going to suffocate which is weird because that's probably more likely to happen with sleeping on my tum.

Haha yeah... ironically the on-back position makes me feel like I'm falling! I feel like I have no stability and I get like... spasms and stuff. Also feels like I'm being crushed. It's weird. I really can't fathom how people can sleep like that at all... On my stomach is so comfy and snug :)

Mostly freefaller, but that's just what I usually fall asleep in and wake up in. Sometimes I'll wake up in the starfish or soldier positions, though.

Mostly freefaller, but I actually alternate between that and foetus. I don't think I ever do log or yearner when I'm on my side, I have to have my knees bent I think. And any positions where I'm on my back never last long because it actually hurts for me to lay on my back, and/or my butt will start going numb- I think I do do the starfish position in the morning when my alarm starts going off- I have to press snooze numerous times, and by being in that uncomfortable position I'm more likely to get up sooner.
