Sleep troubles

Does anyone else have Delayed Sleep Phase disorder? Feeling sluggish during the day and then feeling more awake/alert and able to think straight at night? I'm having such struggles with sleep patterns and this is strongly feeding my SA and depression. When I go to sleep I feel energetic and start thinking about stuff, but when I wake up I feel like some sort of vampire has drained all my life energy.

It also leads me to overindulge in things such as caffeine, and eating a lot to get energy. This of course worsens the problem. I just can't seem to find a solution for this vicious cycle. I've tried melatonin, but that stuff makes me feel incredibly sluggish and dull the next day.

Just one bad night can mess it all up for me, for days. I need to get a steady sleep cycle.

Has anyone here had similar problems and was able to change it?

I have a similar problem, and you're right... it's fuel to the flame when it comes to SA/depression. I've had this problem for about 5 years now, but recently I've tried doing some of my hobbies during the day instead of night to keep myself from just sitting on the couch, and it has helped the exhaustion a bit. Sorry its not much help

I know exactly what you are talking about. For me its just been because of the summer where I usually completely flip my sleep pattern.

In the summer I stayed up until 6 in the morning almost everyday and then would sleep from 6 in the morning to often 5,6PM. Its like ive confused my body so that when its day I feel tired and when its night im wide awake.

Its an unhealthy pattern that im trying to break.

Well lo and behold...

After several days of recovering from a 6 AM to 12 am sleep, today I finally woke up at a very decent hour, without an alarm. Feeling good and energetic. Sadly usually I slowly flip back again, but I will try to hold on to this pattern for a while. Good routinous sleep builds mental strength I find.

I will now expose myself to some morning sunlight so that I can hopefully stay in this routine.

hey gustavo i'm really glad to hear that. I'm having the same problem, didn't know there was a name for it. It does not help depression to be just waking up when other people are going to bed.

Well, my thyroid gland doesn't work well. So I can sleep always and everywhere, despite meds. In the worst case, I'm a guy, so when I'm at home, there are always ways to make me sleepy. :|

yes, though mine is too much energy no matter what I do, no matter what I eat, no matter how little I eat. Nothing ever fixes it, I am awake at night, no matter what I do.

It's currently the worst at the moment and that's because I was working a night shift so my sleep has got even later. I am now finding it hard to get to sleep before 5-7am and now I have been switched to days.

Days naturally kill me, nights are naturally my wake up time. I can't wait to move to America and see what happens there, maybe my time will work itself out there and I will go to bed at a normal time and get up early lol.

Honestly though, I hope to make a future where I fully work for myself and don't have to worry about what time I get up because I am naturally a night person and night time just feels perfect to me.

Night time is also when I get all my ideas, If I go to bed too early I usually lay there for hours and I have to get back up and write down ideas that come into my head.

I don't need coffee or anything to get through my day but I do 'like' one sometimes but not that often.

I don't need anything to get through my day, it's weird because I could happily go all day without a drink and that scares me lol

I've had similar problems for a long time, partly having an over active mind that is hard to slow down, and partly stress I suppose. Caffeine stays in the system for a long time so the best option for those suffering insomnia or sleep disorders is to completely quit caffeine from your diet even if its a gradual thing. I take a valerian with milk half hour before going to bed. Other tips are exercise and a good diet to aid the body to function as it was intended too. Stress is a big factor though.

Quit the caffeine..

My experience is a little different than yours, but this is what helped me sleep at night: "Baldrian".
I have had very tough problems with sleeping, because I get anxious and start to think about all sorts of stuff. My body also get all worked up and I can´t find a good sleeping position = tossing and turning like a grill chicken for hours.

The natural remedy called "Baldrian" has helped me alot. It calms down my nerves so that I´m able to sleep nicely, and I use it in situations where I get really nervous, like before going to a meeting or travelling. Baldrian is a natural non-addictive sleep inducing relaxant.

Although I don't feel that energetic or clear headed at night, I do usually feel a little better. Often times I feel a little more ambitious and feel like doing things that I didn't feel like doing during the day.

Usually I am yawning throughout the day, but I am not yawning at night.

I don't get good sleep. I wake up tired and I am a zombie throughout the day. I don't know what kind of sleep problem I have, just know that nothing I do/have done fixes it.
