Self-conscious about having red hair

I always feel like people are looking at me when i go out and i don't know why. I wish i was shorter (i'm 5ft7) so i could hide a bit easier. I know i'm not imagining it because when i was out with a friend the other day she said something like "every time i'm out with you people always stare!".

I don't like the thought of people staring at me, especially men. Why would they be staring at me? Should i dye my hair so i blend in better? I'm extremely self-conscious.

If that's you in your user picture thing? You're stunning! If not I bet you're beautiful still.

If people are staring maybe it's because they think your attractive. I know when I find myself looking at people ( mostly other girls) it's because I am envious or something.
And red hair is lovely! But if you it would make you feel better dye it.

I find it funny people always want what they can't have- I'm 5'2 & always wanted to be taller. I used to look up "height pills" when I was younger hah. embrace your height & your beautiful red hair.

Thank you for being so nice. No, the picture isn't me. I've been told that i look like her though (she's an actress called Karen Gillan). I used her picture because i look like her and i want to remain some what anonymous. I have dyed my hair brown in the past but i don't think it suits me. Ideally i'd just like to be comfortable in my own skin but i'm not sure if i can.

I have red hair as well and used to feel the exact same way. I always wanted to dye it. Wasn't until recently that I actually learned to embrace it. When people stare, it doesn't mean it's a bad thing. It probably means they think you're gorgeous. If you really dislike your hair, maybe you could try a temporary color?

I love girls who have red hair, but unfortunately it is very rare where I live. Don't ever dye your hair again! I don't know why people stare at you. It is probably because they think you are beautiful and some guys have no manners when it comes to that and just stare at the girl as if all their brain cells were being sucked away.

I like red hair, I think it's beautiful. I don't think people are staring at you because of your hair, they probably just think you're pretty so they can't help but look. ^^

red hair is one of my favourite colours of natural hair. i find myself sometimes staring at people with red hair cause i really like their hair. ive even tried dying my hair red before, but it didnt work. but dont be insecure about it! its a rarity and its beautiful in my opinion

I never understood the whole thing about red hair, what's wrong with it? My aunts have red hair, but not many people around here where i live do, maybe that is why.

Personally, I find red hair to be unbelievably sexy. So please, don't dye it. :D

Lea: I've seen you, you're not ugly. You're pretty attractive if you ask me.

But back on topic, I like red hair as well, I hope you start finding more comfortable with your hair.

People stare because red hair is gorgeous. I have always been jealous of woman with red hair and have always had this false idea that redheaded woman are mean.

Oh no, don't dye your hair. I know I always stare when I see a ginger person because I love red hear, it's mesmerizing. I'm sorry if I make them uncomfortrable, but I, like, don't want to miss it, beacuse it is rare. : D

Don't tell anyone, but red hair is a secret fetish of mine. There's just something exotically sexy about red hair!

Red hair is indeed beautiful and sexy, and I know a US red-haired girl who also uses to hate its hair color, and I really don't know why... don't know if you OP are also from the US, but from a South European perspective this issue doesn't exist here, can't imagine why it developed in the US. Sometimes societies tend to focus their stupid hates on minorities and even take genetic issues as social and group "markers", but AFAIK, there are a lot of Irish and other European descendants in the US that share the red-haired genes, so don't where this issue comes from.

Anyway, a red-haired woman is great; a blond-haired one is also awesome, as is a black one, or a brown, or an auburn... it all depends on the personal self-esteem and values everyone has and develops. I'm not saying that personal appearance doesn't matter, on the contrary, It's obvious we all want to show our best physically, it's embedded on our social behavior to do so, but we should separate that feeling than that of extending social biases and legends that only help to harm our social cohesion even more than it is in our ubber-individualized society.

You're a red-haired: this is not ugly and harmful at all for you nor for anyone: just be proud of it, then. ;)
