I wonder why anxiety disorders arent taken as seriously as "real" illnesses... particularly if it impacts the quality of life. If someone has a diseased liver they get treated with more seriousness than someone with generalized anxiety disorder. Where I am, its seems that the health system is severely flawed and ill equipped to deal with anxiety issues.

Furthermore, it's often seen as a character flaw. That person is "shy", "quiet", "timid", etc. People who have schizophrenia or literally go insane are recognized to have a problem beyond his or her control..... Why aren't we? Some of it IS in our control, but some of it, I firmly believe, is not (such as my minimum automatic anxiety response).
And, unlike some people contest, it IS in fact a DISORDER, not just something you imagine is wrong with you because of various problems. It's a widespread mental health problem and I can tell from the way my body and mind respond, despite my attempts to counter it, that something in me is just not right. Hence, disorder.

Yes I agree, it annoys me too when people think quiet people are weak, boring, uninteresting... its like if you are shy, you are supposed to be ashamed of it. Judging someone just cos they are shy/quiet isnt fair. I see anything that cant be helped (at least without trying to overcome the problem) that is impacting someones life, as a disorder that deserves just as much respect as any other medical condition.

You can have my thoughts. I was thinking about my cat. She's around 5 years old, but was 2-ish when my sister got her from a woman that didn't want her anymore. She took her immediately to the vet to get checked out and fixed. While they were spaying her, they found that she was pregnant.
The moral of this story: My cat has had sex and I have not.

I believe in free healthcare for everybody. I think people who need help shouldnt be turned away or judged... or those that need support be misunderstood. I think the powers that be tend to make knee jerk decisions without thinking through the effect that it has on an individual.

Yes! One of the reasons why if I have to choose between moving to the USA or Canada I'll choose Canada (not that I know much about the subject, I'm talking from the most absolute ignorance XD).
