"It's probably no accident that Stravinsky's Rite of Spring, which is really the seminal work of the twentieth century in so many ways, happened in 1913, just before the greatest conflagration that the world had ever known...Stravinsky talked of trying to recapture the violence, this sense of the Earth cracking open, that he witnessed ever spring in Russia...but on a deeper level, it's a musical metaphor, for the vessel of an exhausted era cracking open."

I was originally gonna post this in the "music in your head" thread but the page loaded too long for me to wait.

Anyways, here's Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer, with my thoughts inserted:

Rudolph, the red-nosed reindeer
had a very shiny nose.
And if you ever saw him,
you would even say it glows.

Great!

All of the other reindeer
used to laugh and call him names.
They never let poor Rudolph
join in any reindeer games.

Sounds a lot like me =(

Then one foggy Christmas Eve
Santa came to say:
"Rudolph with your nose so bright,
won't you guide my sleigh tonight?"

Yay! Santa loves him!

Then all the reindeer loved him
as they shouted out with glee,
Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer,
you'll go down in history!

Oh you freakin 2-faced reindeers! Well, at least Rudolph knows who his true friend is - Santa.
